Text to Change (TTC), Zain (previously Celtel), the local NGO AIDS Information Centre (AIC), the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Merck (US)
Application Area: Education and Awareness Technology Used: Mobile Phones Scope: Text to Change (TTC) provided HIV/AIDS awareness via an SMS-based quiz to
15,000 mobile phone subscribers during three months in Uganda encouraging participants to go for voluntary testing and counselling at the local health center.
Objectives:
1) Education and Awareness on HIV
2) Gather information
3) Promote testing and counselling Results:
1) For patients: 40% increase in HIV testing during 6 weeks
2) Telecom operator: promotion of texting services + CSR
3) Test centre: increase in number of tests provided
4) Information gathering on people's perception around accuracy and confidentiality of testing
