The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) conducts the Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination every year. This exam is popularly known by its sobriquet, “Prelims.” The Prelims, which is common for all candidates applying for Civil Services Examination and Indian Forest Service Examination, acts as a primary elimination process to shortlist candidates for Civil Services (Main) Examination, also known as 'the Mains'.
As you read further, you will realise that the CSE syllabus includes mostly the subjects that you have already covered in school. That sounds easy, right? But despite appearing simple, the exam demands a lot of study and understanding of each subject.
The subjects that are tested in the CSE are those your comprehension of which are important in taking informed decisions as a civil servant. It should not be forgotten that IAS officers have to deal with people and policies.
