Middle Passage

Peter Kjenaas, V.P. of Production and Development, recently came up with a story idea for an animated featurewhich has invigorated the entire company. "Middle Passage" isan epic tale of survival. It follows the trials and trumphs of ayounger brother sold into slavery by his trusted elder brother. His journey into bitterness and revenge is physical and spiritualand takes our hero across the Atlantic to America and intoplantation slavery.

Having recently returned fromGhana, Africa, I am alreadythinking about going back inFebruary. As you can imagine, itwas absolutely life-changing.(See story.) Other areas ofproduction are on the rise also. Inthe live-action department,"Gathering the Joneses" ismoving full-stream ahead withindy producer, Rana JoyGlickman (Julia Sweeney's "GodSaid, Ha!"). In the PromotionsDepartment, I was recently acelebrity guest on "HollywoodSquares." We taped 5 shows inone day and it was a blast!Whoopi Goldberg is a real hoot. Itwill air in January. Stay tuned.    Next trip: New York City, tomeet with Isaac Hayes andComedy Central on a couple ofdevelopment ideas. The middle ofNovember takes me to Australiato kick off an animation artexhibition. Anyone into Art d'Bart? We'll find out soon.

For the nonce,*

* for the time being;for now.

The Glories of Ghana    Happy House went to Africa. This has to top the list of alifetime in the unexpectedriches of life category. Nancy, along with Denzel Washington,Issac Hayes, Jackie Jacksonand many others has been aconsistent contributor to TheWorld Literacy Crusade whichis a champion of bringingeducational excellence to thosewho need it most. One of the Crusade's most exciting projects is theNeko Tech School, a learning center in Ghana, Africa which isnearing completion. She was invited by Princess Asie Ocansey tocome and visit "home," Africa. The center was reason enough butwhen coupled by the birth of our latest project, "Middle Passage," theinvitation was readily accepted. Peter and Nancy, with hernine-year-old daughter Lucy, took the magical ten day journey ofresearch and exploration. The images you see on this page are justa couple of the myriad of images that we have on film but they palewith what we now carry in our minds and hearts. Please check ourweb page for write ups on this amazing experience; a trip that allAmericans should take.
