Dear Selection Cornmittee.

This letter of Intent is to request support, under the category of "family grant," for theproduction oi a new puppet show calied "l Spy Butterfly' (working title) The show is

'lofted to premier at the Puppet Showplace Theatet in 2017 as part ol their "New

Year New Works" series.

"l Spy Butterfly" is aboui a quirky inventive young girl who loves all things that creep andcrawl and litter and flutter- Through a series of unlortunate events she is launched intoan epic adventure in which she must save an endangered butterfly.

The production is currently being developed through a series of public workshops that Idesigned with the purpose of invit ing my community into the pla\, 'rrrit ing and designprocess. These theater and arts-based workshops, funded through a Somervil le ArtsCouncil grant, are taking place February through June 2016 in three local l ibraries. Eachlibrary series is targeting a different age range and the outcomes are informing eitherthe show's design (puppet/costume/set) and/or inspiring the play'rvfiting (storyideas/character development). I have assembled an excited production team that includes: Max Weigbert(musician/composer), Kendra Bell (costume design), Sarah Goone (puppet design), andBonnie Duncan (assistance with story development.) Max Weigbert is co"facil i tating thepubic workshops and has already composed music ior the final production.

There are several works-in-progress, as well as shori excerpts of, "l Spy Butterfly"booked for 2016. These includer LincoJn Library (April 21) - Somervil le PuppetPalooza(May) - Hubbub Puppet Festival lBoston Book Festival (June 4) - Boston Children'sl\,4useum (June 9) - and a mix of Puppet Showplace dates throughout the year, leadinguD to the oremier in 2017.
