The Internet Governance Forum (IGF) has proven its worth to the interna9onalcommunityandtoallthosewhoarecommiBedtoanopen,thriving,andaccessibleInternet.Theopenandinclusivedialogueanddebatethatitprovidesiscri9caltotheInternet’s con9nued evolu9on. The IGF by now is the major annual event for allstakeholders togatherasequalsanddiscuss Internetpolicy related issues. In2015theUnitedNa9onsGeneralAssemblyrecognizedthevalueoftheIGFandextendedits mandate for another 10 years. Part of the IGF success story is the growth ofNa9onal and Regional IGF Ini9a9ves (NRIs) in all con9nents, triggered off by theglobalIGF.TheIGFisfundedthroughvoluntarycontribu9onsandthereforeinconstantneedoffunding.IGFSA’spurposeistopromoteandsupporttheglobalIGFaswellasNRIs.Itis a not-for-profit associa9on incorporated in Switzerland created to broaden thedonor base and to provide stable and predictable funding from individuals anden99eswhowanttosupporttheIGFaswellastheNRIs.IGFSAaimstobuildonandcomplement exis9ng funding sources and strengthen the linkages between theglobalIGFandtheNRIsandprovidesfinancialsupportfortheIGFSecretariatthroughcontribu9onstotheUNIGFTrustFund.Todate,IGFSAhascontributedUSD260,000totheUNIGFTrustFund.IGFSA’sroleasachannelforaddi9onalfundingfortheIGFTrustFundhasbeenrecognizedbytheUNthroughanexchangeofleBers.

Na9onal and Regional IGF Ini9a9ves (NRIs) are a majoroutcomeoftheIGF.Theywerenotplanned,butsprungupspontaneously on all con9nents. What they have incommonwiththeglobalIGFistheirboBom-up,openandinclusivecharacter.GoodInternetgovernancestartsatthena9onalandregionallevelsandtheNRIscanthusprovidefeedback from the grassroots and provide input into theprogram for the annual Global IGF in a true boBom-upprocess.StrengtheningthelinkagesbetweentheNRIsandtheglobalIGFispartofthecoreIGFSAmission.In 2016 the IGFSA was able to provide support to 8Regional Ini9a9ves and 20 Na9onal Ini9a9ves. NRIsrequire significant support in the form of human andfinancialresources..IGFSAwillcon9nuetoprovidesupporttoNRIs,providingUSD3500forRegionalandSub-Regionaland USD 2000 USD for Na9onal IGF Ini9a9ves.
