ALL ABOUT NNLC
NNLC Charter CLUB PURPOSE
The purpose of the New Neighbors League Club
(NNLC) is to bring together the new neighbors
of the area so they may meet and become friends
while adjusting to new surroundings. The Club is
a not-for-profit social organization with a variety
of interest groups and special activities, including
monthly luncheons and programs.
HISTORY
NNLC is the official social club of New
Neighbors League, Inc. (NNLI), which was
founded in Dayton, Ohio in 1939 by Theodore R.
Briggs. Out of the business of greeting new
residents grew a recognized need for a social
organization allowing newcomers to meet others
who were also new to the area. Theodore’s wife,
Bunny, lived in many cities throughout the
United States and knew the loneliness associated
with moving into unfamiliar areas. With the aid
of the Ohio Federated Women’s Club, the
Constitution and By-Laws for NNLC were
drafted. The first chapter was chartered in
Cincinnati, Ohio in 1943. As the greeting service
operations were established, new club chapters
were founded. Dayton was home for New
Neighbors League until 1986 when Corporate
and Club Headquarters were moved to Atlanta,
Georgia and Cheryl Beaudreault assumed the
position of National President. Currently, there
are fourteen operations nationwide. Each chapter
operates independently within established
guidelines and under the direction of a local
Board of Directors and a Club Director.
MEMBERSHIP
Membership in NNLC is open to any local
woman wanting to meet new people and
make new friends in the community. Prospective
members should attend a Welcome Coffee held
on the first Tuesday of the month. There are two
parts to the initial membership fee. First, a one-
time lifetime membership fee of $25.00 to join
NNLC with transfer privileges to any sister
chapter; this fee is forwarded to National Club
Headquarters. Second, there is a $25
membership fee that remains with the local
chapter to cover administrative expenses (this
amount is pro-rated according to the month
joined). On-going members will pay a $25
annual fee each year in January.
Affiliated Chapters:
Alabama- Birmingham
Georgia- Atlanta, Peachtree City
Kansas- Johnson County
Nebraska- Omaha
Missouri- Kansas City, St. Louis
Ohio- Canton, Columbus, Dayton, Toledo
Tennessee- Nashville
Texas- Corpus Christi

Prospective New Member
Coffee
Moving into a new
community can be exciting,
overwhelming, and often
times, lonely. NNLC can
help make the transition
easier by helping women
find new friends and
activities. If you know of
someone new to the area,
invite her to join us at the
monthly coffee where she
can learn more about
everything NNLC has to
offer.
The next coffee is:

Happy April! As
I write this
message, I just
got back from
Florida—warm
weather along
with Cardinal
baseball!
FUN! (I’m a huge fan as I know
many of you are as well). But I don’t
have to go to Florida to find fun. We
have plenty of that right here in St.
Louis with our New Neighbors Club.
I was perusing the past in my mind
the other day-remembering moving
back here in June, 2010 after being
away for 15 years. You don’t go
back to the same friendships when
you’ve been gone that long. And I
feel so blessed to have found our
club and to have so many friends and
acquaintances; more than any of the
other 11 towns and cities we’ve lived
in. But…what surprised me in my
thinking was that I had felt I was

NNLC Poem
Submitted by Kris Riehl
It may be bowling, playing cards
or may be eating out,
Having fun with other women, is
what we're all about.
Your kids are grown? You
moved away? Looking for some
fun?
New Neighbors is the answer!
There's something for everyone.
So don't be shy. No reason why.
We want you here with us.
No need to get all dressed up, or
make a crazy fuss.
We really need each other to
make this whole thing fly,
Making friends is easy, you
hardly need to try.
We all come from somewhere
else, be it far or down the road.
We all are different in so many
ways, by the stories we have told.
Don't hesitate another second.
Time is ticking, true?
The piece that's really missing in
our group, is truly YOU!
pretty well set with my group of
close friends. However, I have a
new close friend who just joined
the club recently. I guess you
never run out of room for more
friends. And that’s what our club
is all about: fun and friendship.
This is my last letter as your
President. It’s been an honor
serving the club this past year.
And thanks to all of you who
have enlisted or re-enlisted on
the Board for the coming year.
Without your willingness to
volunteer your services, our
organization would flounder.
I hope to see you soon at some of
our FUN activities!
In Fun and Friendship,

NEW GROUP FORMING
The Pod Squad
Submitted by Miriam Krajewski
Have you heard of podcasting? Podcasts are on-demand radio shows that you can
access on the web, on your phone or on your tablet.
Last year the world went crazy over the Podcast
series ‘Serial’. Since then a few of us have gotten
very addicted to podcasting and we have decided we want to discuss and
share our favorite shows.
We are proposing an evening group, meeting in a restaurant in the
Chesterfield Valley area once a month. The group would be similar to a
book group, with the members of the group recommending individual
episodes of podcasts which we would then discuss the following month.
We expect to have our first meeting in April. If you would like to join us please contact Miriam
at [email protected] or at 314 825 8210. We will decide the exact date of the first meeting based on
availability of interested members.

MESSAGE FROM DIRECTOR GAY HAMPTON
TO ALL NNLC MEMBERS AND FRIENDS
From Director Gay Hampton:
If it has been a while since you read the Constitution and By-Laws, and the history of NNL, you
might not realize how far our chapter has strayed from the original directives for the founding of the
group.
When NNLC was born it was a much more exclusive and narrow membership. You were to have
moved into the St. Louis area for no longer than a two year period in order to be eligible for
membership. You were invited to become a member and you were only a voting/active member for
those first two years of membership. After those two years (from which all board members were
elected for a six month term of office) you were considered to be an “affiliated” member, having
established your friends, your groups and your activities. You were no longer a voting member,
couldn’t serve on the board, nor was your attendance at club events encouraged as you were considered
to have used the chapter for its intended purpose to have established yourself socially in your new
home.
As you can see, we have moved so far away from the original intention of the NNL that we no
longer resemble our parent organization. For many years, going back as far as the 1980’s, members
have contemplated separating ourselves from NNL and becoming our own organization with our own
rules and goals. The current board of directors has been discussing this issue at length and we now feel
it is time for us to include the membership in this discussion.
With a membership of over 200, I’m sure there are many questions and comments needing to
be discussed. The Board would like to arrange a question and answer session at a future date, and all
members will be invited to attend.
In this issue there is a page detailing the pros and cons of continued
affiliation with NNL. Please read these comments carefully and decide
how you feel about this issue. After consulting with an attorney we
discovered all members will have to agree to leave NNL in order to
retain our treasury funds and our material property (computers, supplies,
etc.) so please discuss this with your activity friends. The Board and I
look forward to your input in this important issue.
In Fun and Friendship,
Gay Hampton, Director

MESSAGE FROM DIRECTOR GAY HAMPTON
Rita Crain, Debbi Nicks, Janna Cobb, Linda Mathson, Cheryl Spoden, Kirsten Coulon
POINTS OF VIEW FOR INDEPENDENCE Written by Director Gay Hampton
POINT OF VIEW FOR INDEPENDENCE
MEMBERS IN GOOD STANDING (HAVING PAID THEIR YEARLY DUES) MAY PARTICIPATE IN
THE FOLLOWING WAYS:
1. Vote on all issues brought before the membership
2. Hold office on the board at any time during their membership
3. Encourage changes to constitution and by-laws to more closely reflect our
attitudes and regulations
4. Act for the good of the membership without interference from outside au-
thority
5. Actively pursue new members from the ranks of women who have lived in
the St Louis area longer than two years and pursue the ideal of providing social activities for women at all
stages of life whether new to the area, retirees, widows, or women wishing to expand their social
friendships.
6. *Membership in NNL is lifetime so if a current member moves they may join a NNL
chapter in their new city if one exists.
POINT OF VIEW FOR REMAINING WITH NNL
1. Be considered “active” voting member and be able to serve on the board
for first two years of membership
2. Refer to National office to resolve any issues within our chapter
3. Long history of association with NNL in St. Louis area
4. *If a current member moves, their NNL membership may be transferred to
the NNL chapter in their new city if one exists.
The greatest change our membership would see is to our constitution and by-laws which would reflect who
we are as a group and how we function as an open, independent and welcoming club. There will be no
changes to our regular activities and groups. All activities, luncheons, meetings and procedures would
remain the same as they are now. The organization name “New Neighbors League” is owned by Cheryl
Beaudreault so that would necessitate a name change for our group. Since we see no income from our
sponsors, we would have no need to actively seek out sponsorship. We receive NO funds from National,
and we pay our own taxes as an independent group.
*National membership in NNL is paid once and is lifetime membership
