EMERGENCY DRILLSFor the safety of our members, the YMCA conducts periodicalemergency drills. Your cooperation is expected and appreciated.

KEEPING KIDS SAFE AND SECUREYouth PolicyYouth under the age of 12 are not permitted in the Health andWellness Center. Youth ages 12-14 may use the Wellness CenterBranch Fitness Center when accompanied by their parent orguardian. *Youth ages 10-11 may use fitness center at TuckerAvenue upon completion of YST class, (pg. 9). Youth must beunder direct adult supervision when using the YMCA and maynot be left unattended at any time. Youth must also beaccompanied by an adult on the pool deck and in the lockerroom. Youth wearing floatation devices must be accompaniedby an adult member or paid guest in the water and within arm’sreach of assistance.
LOCKER ROOMSLockers are for daily use only. Please bring your belongings andremove each day as items left overnight may be discarded. TheGateway Family YMCA is not responsible for lost or stolenitems. Children ages 6 and older must use gender specificlocker rooms.

FOR YOUTH DEVELOPMENT
EARLY CHILDHOOD DEVELOPMENT CENTERThe YMCA believe the values and skills learned early on are vital building blocks for quality of life and future success. That’s why atthe Early Childhood Development Center we provide care for children ages 6 weeks to 5 years in a safe, nurturing, educational andenriching environment. Our value based program is designed to enhance and enrich each child's cognitive, social, physical andemotional growth. At the Y, children will learn through self exploration and guided discovery with the High Scope Curriculum. Throughcollaboration with parents and families we provide support and strive to meet the developmental needs and temperament of eachchild. We provide additional opportunities that encourage children to learn, grow and thrive including our youth sports, dance andcreative development programs.

INFANTSOur Infant Care Nursery is designed for the health, safety andwell being of our youngest “bundles of joy.” Parents and staffwork together to provide the best care and atmosphere for ababy to grow and develop both physically and mentally. YMCAprovides high chairs, toys, and individual cribs. Parent providesfood, diapering and crib supplies, and information about yourbaby’s special needs, individual style and schedule.
WADDLERSThe transition from infant to toddler is marked with increasesin mobility, verbal expression and curiosity. To support thisdevelopment, our staff engages the children in multi-sensoryactivities as well as repetitive songs and finger plays. Childrenwill be introduced to self-help skills.
TODDLERSToddlers are curious, full of energy, and are learning manynew skills. Our program helps them develop at their own paceand stimulates their natural curiosity through the use ofmusic, stories, games, and creative and dramatic play. Staffwill continue to foster self-help skills, with emphasis ontoilet training.
TODDLER PLUSThis age group is experiencing tremendous physical, mentaland verbal growth, while becoming more independent, outgoing,and social. In efforts to stimulate these growth patterns, ourprogram provides an enriching and accepting environment wheresocial, intellectual, physical, and emotional growth will bloomand blossom.
PRESCHOOLEach child is an individual with a unique pattern and timing ofgrowth and development. Our teachers are essential in helpingto build every child’s self-esteem and work to provide a positiveand meaningful experience daily. Activities include explorationand interaction through dramatic play, blocks, science, math,games and puzzles, books, art, music and movement. Childrenmust be completely potty trained to enter this room and beeligible for the Pre-K monthly rate.
PRE-KThe Pre-K provides educational and enriching programming forthe children to get a “jumpstart” in the learning process.Working closely with state standards for teaching and learning,our teachers will provide developmentally appropriate instructionthat will continue to enhance the students’ understanding ofliteracy, math, science, social emotional development, visual andperforming arts, health, safety and physical education, socialstudies, family and life skills.
Healthy U…Healthy U is a behavior change program that will help reduce childhood obesity through education on proper nutrition, increasedphysical activity and parental engagement. Healthy U utilizes the CATCH (Coordinated Approach To Child Health) curriculum, whichteaches children that both healthy eating and physical activity is fun. CATCH will create healthy habits in childhood that can last alifetime! The Healthy U Program is now incorporated within our pre-school setting.

Since 2007, each of our After Care sites has utilized the Healthy U program. Healthy U is a behavior change program that helpsprevent obesity in children by offering nutritional education and physical activity. Healthy U utilizes the CATCH (CoordinatedApproach to Child Health) curriculum and has proven to have a positive impact on children ages 5 – 13 yrs. CATCH emphasizesthe importance of lifestyle changes and helps youth learn positive behaviors which will carry on into adulthood.

George Boley Jr. is a 5th Degree Black Belt. He is also a memberof USITF/ITF, PPCT, ICHF, AFI and WHA. Tae Kwon Do is theessential discipline of the mind, body and spirit. Within eachclass, students learn the skills of self-defense by managing sixtenets: Power, Speed, Focus, Balance, Relaxation and Control.Throughout their time within the program students practiceand work to achieve belt levels by embracing new skills andenhancing those previously learned. Each level consists of thepowers of concentration, self-discipline and timing. Studentswill become sharper and highly developed ascoordination improves.

RIPTIDES INTRAMURAL SWIM PROGRAM/PRE-SWIM TEAM—AGES 6-16 YEARS45 minute classesThe Riptides Swim Program is designed for swimmers who want toswim multiple times per week or for those swimmers interestedin improving technique in order to qualify for the Rapids SwimTeam. Swimmers participating in Riptides must be at the skilllevel Fish and above. Swim evaluations are also conducted todetermine admission to the program. This Program focuses onstroke technique in all four competitive strokes (Freestyle,Backstroke, Breaststroke, Butterfly) and is a great way toincrease cardio endurance. Led by qualified coaches, the Riptidesintroduces youth to a swim team environment. Swimmers arerequired to swim at least two days per week and can swim up tofive days per week with flexibility to choose the days you wantto swim! HYDROHEALTHThis low intensity class takes place in the shallow end of thepool and combines cardiovascular training, stretching andstrengthening exercises.
AQUA BLASTThis low impact, moderate intensity class that focuses onmindful muscle toning and cardio endurance. The properties ofwater offer a highly resistant workout that will increase yourheart rate and strengthen your muscles. Great workout forpeople at all levels of fitness.
AQUA ZUMBAAqua Zumba gives new meaning to the idea of an invigoratingworkout! Splashing, stretching, twisting, even shouting, laughing,hooting and hollering. This safe, challenging, water-basedworkout that’s all cardio conditioning, body toning and mostof all exhilarating.

YMCA DIABETES PREVENTION PROGRAMEveryone needs a push, a pat on the back, and sometimes a helping hand. A littleencouragement goes a long way when you’re making big changes. The YMCA DiabetesPrevention Program will help you make the lifestyle changes needed to reduce the riskof developing Type 2 diabetes.
As a participant, you will enjoy:• A safe space where you will feel comforable sharing and learning in private.• Making new friends. You will support each other as you all trade old habits for
healthier new ones.• Working as a group. You don’t have to figure this out alone.• The new energy and confidence that comes from losing weight and reducing your risk

PARTNERS IN HEALINGLIVESTRONG at the YMCA is a small-group, 12-week program, that helps adult cancer survivors reclaim their health and well-being following a cancer diagnosis at no cost. Participants will have the opportunity to regain strength, both physically and mentally in a non-medical setting.
Caring Y staff, trained in supportive cancer care, will assist cancer survivors in achieving goals such as building muscle mass and strength; increasing flexibility and endurance; and improving confidence and self-esteem. In addition to physical benefits, LIVESTRONG at the YMCA focuses on the emotional well-being of survivors by providing a supportive community where people impacted with cancer can connect.
By focusing on the whole person, and not the disease, LIVESTRONGat the YMCA helps people move beyond cancer in spirit, mind and body.
