The Endeavour West Ryde Public School Newsletter Term 3: Issue No. 4 8th September 2016

Principal’s Message We sure keep ourselves busy at school. Below are some of the highlights. Public Speaking After a fantastic Stage 1 semi-final, late last week, we are all looking forward to the whole school final which will be held tomorrow. I am sure that all of the students have been practicing in front of the mirror and working on their voice projection and their elocution. Good luck to all of the students participating. I would like to thank Ms Devlin for all her hard work in organising the whole school competition and all the class teachers for preparing their students so diligently over the past weeks. Maths Cup Mr Logan and a small group of Year 6 students went to Amity College at Prestons to a competition for talented mathematicians. The Maths Cup was designed to encourage a greater student interest in mathematics, to put the fun back into functions, to create a desire to solve challenging puzzles, and to foster a burgeoning joy within students for problem solving and teamwork. From all reports students enjoyed the cup and represented our school extremely well. Taronga Zoo Excursion Today saw all of the Kindergarten students and their teachers go on their annual excursion to Taronga Zoological Park. All of the students have been extremely excited about their trip. Thank you to Miss Murray for organising the day and all the Kindergarten teachers and extra support staff who made themselves available to take nearly 100 5 year olds into the wild for the day. I am sure that Kindergarten will show all of their very best West Ryde manners when exploring the zoo.

Friendly Reminders

Kidpreneur Market Day

During term 3 students in Years 5 and 6 have been working hard to create their own businesses with the help of a program called Kidpreneur. Students formed their own groups of 2 or 3 and with the help of Cleverpatch who gave them $40.00 per business to spend have created their own business product.

On Wednesday 21 September these students will have their own stall in the playground from 2:00-4:00 in the afternoon. All are welcome to come and purchase products created, marketed and sold by these students.

Any money made over the original amount the students have put in will be donated to Stewart House.

Thank you for your support!

Public Speaking Report

“Ethos, Pathos, Logos” (Aristotle-A wise old Greek)

On Friday 2 September 16 class winners from Years 1 and 2 presented their speeches to their peers, teachers and parents in the Stage semi-final for Public Speaking. The delivery of speeches from each student would have impressed even Aristotle himself. The students spoke very well and their speeches were entertaining and informative. The students from Stage 1 who presented their speeches were:

Juhitha Abby Sophie Nina Anay Abhay Matilda Rose Kawin Lucca Aaliyah Saif Althea Indiana Elijah Irene

I would like to congratulate all 16 students who delivered their speeches in a diligent and effective manner. Your hard work, preparation and practice were evident during the assembly. It was great to watch and listen to our budding young speakers voice their views and share their ideas about various topics.

A special congratulations to the following students who were chosen to represent Stage 1 at the finals of the competition in week 8:

Rose Lucca Matilda Indiana

We look forward to an exciting assembly that will showcase our best Public Speakers.

Miss Devlin

Payments At The Office As we are now using the new Department finance system could I bring to your attention the POP (Parent on-line payment) method which can be used 24/7 – at home or work through the School website . It is very simple and easy to use and a very secure method to pay for your child’s school fees, excursions - saves time by not having to find cash or write a cheque. You can find it under “MAKE A PAYMENT” on the front screen of the school website. We also have an Ipad available for use at the front office if you do not have internet access.

Please note: NO EFTPOS facilities. Parents can only use the POP method (see below), cash or cheque to make payments to the school.

New Payment Method now available (POP – Parent on-line payment) It is now possible for parents to make online payments to the school for amounts owing for students, via a secure payment page hosted by Westpac. Payments can be made using either a Visa or MasterCard credit or debit card. The payment page is accessed from the front page of the schools website by selecting $ Make a payment

Items that can be paid include voluntary school contributions, subject contributions, excursions, sales to students and creative and practical arts activities (these include band, drama and dance). There is also a category called Other. This is to cover items not covered in the previous headings. Other can be used to make a complete payment of a school invoice.

When you access the $ Make a payment you must enter:

• the student’s name , class and date of birth AND reason for payment (in reference section)

These details are entered each time you make a payment as student information is not held within the payment system.

This is a secure payment system hosted by Westpac to ensure that your credit/debit card details are captured in a secure manner, these details are not passed back to the school.

You have the ability to check and change any details of the payment before the payment is processed. Receipts can be emailed and/or printed.

Details of the payments are passed daily to the school where they will be receipted against your child’s account. As a receipt has been issued from the payment page a further receipt will not be issued by the school.

For any enquiries regarding the Online Payment process please contact the School Administration Office.

Parking and Safety To ensure the safety of all students do not park on the school crossing. Please use the crossing with your child when crossing the road in Bennett and Endeavour Streets. PLEASE DO NOT DO ‘U’ TURNS OVER OR ON THE CROSSING. As our school numbers have grown it will become increasingly difficult to park in and around the school. Please do not park across residents’ driveways as this makes it difficult for these homeowners to enter or exit their driveway in the morning and afternoon. Please do not park in the designated parking areas of the surrounding units. Please help us to have a good reationship with our neighbours by respecting them and the parking rules around the school.

Speech Therapist We again have the services of the Gladesville Speech Pathologist on site every week. If you think that your child needs speech therapy please come to the office and ask for a referral form . The Speech Pathologist will contact you directly to arrange a time that suits you. Please note that there is a cost involved and that this is not a free service.

School Visits and Safety Induction When you come onto school grounds you will need to come to the front office and sign in to receive a visitor’s badge. You will now also be required to a have a safety induction. The gates on Mons and Bennett Streets will be locked during the school day - please enter via Endeavour Street.

Coding For all those students who missed out on Coding Club this year, there is still a way for you to learn code. http://www.code.org is a great website for those who are new to coding but want to give it a try. It's free to sign up, and a little addictive once you get going!
