A HUGE Thank You to Judi Wackerbarth!
I have enjoyed servicing funeral receptions since 1998, after my
Mother's funeral and fully understanding what this service means to a
family during this time when feelings of loss, sorrow, confusion, anxiety and
a multitude of others are mixed together against a timeline. This service
provided the lifting of responsibility for the planning of the reception, but
also a time after the service to really slow down and visit with all the friends
and family that had gathered to honor and remember my family member.
This volunteer opportunity begins with a notification of a funeral or
memorial service and a request for a reception. The position of AGAPE Co-
chair, after receiving the details relating to date, time and family requests,
begins the coordination planning for the service, putting out an AGAPE call
to the congregation for volunteers and cookies, coordinates the setup,
food prep, serving and cleanup for the service. In my six years as the AGAPE
Co-chair for BUMC, I am proud to say that I always had my AGAPE call
responded to and fulfilled within 1-3 days, usually within the first 36 hours!
If you would like to learn more about this vital role in our church, and
are ready to use your skills and loving talents to help others at such a criti-
cal time, please contact: [email protected] 586-5413, ext 103; or
[email protected], 580-8017.
Shoes for Project Fresh Start Some folks released from jail need many things, and that can include
a pair of shoes appropriate to the season. If you have gently used men's or
women's shoes that you no longer want, please leave them in the box in the
narthex. They will be given to participants in Project Fresh Start, Gallatin
County's voluntary program to reduce recidivism. Thank you very much.
Process vs. Results
Our twenty one Stephen Ministers walk along side individuals going
through rough spots in life. As we do so, we follow the idea of PROCESS,
not RESULTS. This means that we're not there to hand out suggestions or
solutions to you to fix your problem right away. Instead, we walk with you
through the process of expressing your fears, hopes, and feelings.
Following this process can help most people over time.
If you are going through a difficult time and would like a Stephen
Minister, please speak to Kim Broden, Tanya Reinhardt, Fred Cornelious,
or Pastor Deb.
If you think God is calling you to become a Stephen Minister, speak to
any of our Stephen Ministers. Training begins in January.

Learn So Much More about Our Church and Our Conference
Visit www.yacumc.org
Like the kids learned to do at VBS this year: let’s “Go Deep”! All are
invited to read and learn more about current issues and recent events
which impact our church and the Yellowstone Annual Conference. The web
site www.yacumc.org is full of all kinds of information about the happenings
in our greater church community. Additionally, there is a great “Question
and Answer” article under the “Media Packet” tab regarding the appoint-
ment of Bishop Karen Oliveto.
Did you know there are opportunities to get involved with the church
in ways which help churches throughout Montana (and our Conference)? If
you go to the “Ministries” tab on the website, you’ll see a list of groups
which serve the needs of the Conference. Or maybe you’d like information
on all the camps available to youth and adults… just click the “Camps” tab!
Greetings . . .
The BUMC staff and I discussed the need
to spiritually engage with the brokenness
of the world. Here is a prayer written by a
Sister of Mercy that thoughtfully puts our
concerns into prayer. Pastor Deb
Loving God, you inspire us with love for
all persons and concern for the
well-being of all creation.
Give us today the strength and courage
to transform the compassion of
our hearts into acts of peace,
mercy, and justice.
Forgive us for the arrogance that leads
to moral blindness, for desires for
vengeance and retaliation, and for
willingness to sacrifice others for
our own security and avarice.
Help us to renounce all forms of
violence: prejudice, unfair
allegations, intolerance, and injury.
Give us the courage to resist
threatening postures, calls to
arms, mobilization of troops and
weapons, and all actions that
threaten the lives and livelihoods
of innocent people.
Empower us to live out the caring
presence of the merciful and
generous persons we claim to be.
Make us channels of your peace,
bearers of healing, women and
men who hear and respond with
alacrity to pleas for justice in
our world.
We ask all this in the name of Jesus
who came among us to show us
the way.

Deep Sea Discovery VBS 2016 ! ! !
This June we all were reminded
that God Knows Us, God Hears Us, God
Strengthens Us, God Loves Us And God
Sends Us.
Our VBS family... kids, youth, and
adults from around our community had

wonderful activities and mission work.

food for the Gallatin Valley Food Bank,
planted over 160 pea plants for God's
Love Garden, made beautiful wooden
treasure chests, sang, danced and
acted our way through the week!

honored with The Harry Denman Evangelism
Award at the Yellowstone Annual Conference.
“This award honors United Methodists in each
annual conference whose exceptional ministry
of evangelism – expressed in Word (what),
Sign (why), and Deed (how) – brings people
into a life transforming relationship with Jesus
Christ. Evangelism happens in many contexts
and many settings; impacts and engages all
generations; and requires relationship among
a variety of persons.”

I am celebrating our first month together! I am so happy and blessed to be serving BUMC and living in beautiful Bozeman! My July sermons hopefully have helped you get to know me and understand some of the major aspects of my faith. In August I am going to preach from the lectionary which as you know is a three-year schedule of Bible passages intended to explore the major ideas and sections of the Bible. The August scripture will be from Hebrews, a favorite book of mine where my call scripture comes from. We don’t know who wrote Hebrews but we do know who it was written to. The newly formed community of Christ followers, Christians were discouraged. The world seemed such an uncharitable place, one in which they were not welcome in fact they often faced persecution. The dreams they had for a better life had not materialized
and their faith was flagging. Not unlike our world. We are engulfed by a fast pace, secularism, unkindness and even worse the violence and hatred that seem to be every-where. Knowing that the very first Christians had similar feelings might help, but most importantly it reminds us that the messages of the Bible written over a 1000 years ago sounds pretty relevant for today. We need a hero, someone that we can absolutely believe in! Come join us in worship this August and let’s look for one! We may find lots of them in the people who sit in worship with us, pray with us, those who read the scripture or lead the singing! Let us look for places that our faith, even in times of difficulty and uncertainty shine through!
God is Good … All the time … All the time … God is Good
Peace and blessings,
Pastor Deb
