The Challenger
March 2016
From the Desk of the DOM: On January 21st of this year our association lost one of its greatest servants and staunchest supporters, for on that day brother Carrell Hooper went to be with the Lord. Brother Carrell was called as Superintendent of Missions in July of 1957 and later assumed the title of Director of Missions. He came from Fairview Baptist Church in Durant, of which he was the first pastor. Brother Hooper retired from BBA in February of 1984, but continued to pastor and supply in various locations for several years to come. He was named DOM Emeritus of BBA in 1990. I (Tim) had the privilege of visiting with him on a number of occasions, including just a couple of weeks before his passing. He never stopped asking about and praying for the work of this association. Brother Carrell was a Godly man who portrayed the best testimony for his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. While we rejoice in the fact that he is now in Heaven, we mourn his absence from us and offer heart-felt con-dolences to his son Gerry and the rest of the family. A memorial service is to be held in the future and we will do our very best to get that infor-mation out in a timely fashion.

From the BBA Prayer Ministry Team Leader Ephesians 6:18 Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication
for all saints. There is the supernatural provision of the Christian soldier —prayer— a constant spirit of prayer. The soldier enters the conflict fully dressed and armed, but something else is essential: great confidence and assurance
and courage. Such comes from a spirit of prayer. The following things need to be noted about the soldier's prayer.
1. He must pray—always pray. The soldier who is not always praying is not assured of God's protection. The Christian soldier must pray all the
time to maintain a constant unbroken consciousness of God's presence and care. Such infuses the needed assurance, confidence, and courage. 2. He must pray "in the Spirit," that is, in the Holy Spirit, the Spirit of the
only living and true God. Prayer to any other god or to one's own thoughts or to some other man-made god is empty and useless.
3. He must be sleepless in prayer. The Christian soldier must concentrate and persevere in prayer. He must go to the point of being sleepless in
prayer—sometimes so intensely involved in prayer that he actually goes without sleep in order to pray.
4. He must pray unselfishly. The soldier is not in battle alone; many are engaged in the same warfare. The outcome of the battle is determined by the welfare of all involved. The Christian soldier must pray for those who
fight with him. The Christian soldier must pray as much and as intensely for his fellow soldiers as for himself.
5. He must pray for leaders in particular. Leaders, their decisions and example, often determine the outcome of the battle. The
Christian soldier has leaders who teach and preach and administer throughout the church and around the world. Boldness and decisiveness and purity are needed to put the enemy to flight and to capture souls for
the gospel (Acts 28:20). May we as a part of the BBA, go forth as honorable soldiers of the cross praying always with all prayer and
supplication in the Spirit. In His Grip, Bro. Anthony
