The NameThe NameThe evidence of humanity's impact on theplanet is so overwhelming, experts haverecommended the declaration of a newgeological time, the Anthropocene Epoch.Starting from 1950, this new age is definedby nuclear tests, plastic pollution andcarbon dioxide emissions. The VintagThe VintageeA healthy winter and plenty of spring rainsset the vines up very well. Bud burst was ontime, but very cool for the first part ofspring. Shoots grew to 5 or 6 inches long andthen stopped for a month. Flowering wasquite late, by three weeks, which meant alate start to harvest, and long, slow ripeningperiods. The summer rains stopped inmid-January, so disease pressure was low. Itwas very dry from February to April, withonly a few millimetres of rain. Days weremild with a lot of cool nights, the first fewweeks of April was around two degreeshotter than usual, which help that last bitsof fruit to ripen. Overall, a great vintagewith minimal disease pressure and aboveaverage crop levels.

The WinemakingThe WinemakingWalking the vineyard rows and tastinggrapes, fourth generation family member,Chester Osborn, determines the idealpicking time for each individual vineyard.Small batches of grapes are gently crushedand then transferred to open fermenters.Foot treading is undertaken two thirds ofthe way through fermentation, the wine isbasket pressed and transferred to oldFrench oak to complete fermentation andmature for nine months.

The CharacterisThe CharacteristicsticsFresh, vibrant, aromatic and simplyjumping out of the glass. Be swept away withthe wonderfully fruity notes, mulberry andplum, a suggestion of raspberry andstrawberry and an ever so delicate hint offine white pepper. Light on its feet but fullof pure fruit flavour. A silky mid palate givesway to fine, spicy tannins on the finish.Bottled early to capture all of thosedelightfully youthful characters. A red winethat can be enjoyed in any weather, don'thesitate to put a very slight chill on it.
