Metoden
I Finite Element metoden optræder et bjælkeelement som et endimensionalt element med en udstrækning i længdeaksen alene uden dimension i højde og bredde..
Programmet regner således på profilernes centerlinier. De enkelte elementer skal derfor være forbundet gennem de respektive centerlinier og også samles i endepunkterne.
I en virkelig konstruktion vil centerlinierne ikke altid være placeret i samme niveau, ligesom elementernes endepunkter sjældent vil falde sammen.

Metoden
Konstruktionen kan nu overføres til Robot via CBS. I denne proces blotlægges en svaghed ved Robot/CBS. Hvis konstruktionen består af betonbjælker/søjler eller af træbjælker/søjler vil IFC filen overføre alle oplysninger fra ADT til Robot/CBS.
I dette tilfælde, hvor elementerne består af stålprofiler, skal alle elementer redefineres. Dette vil sige, at oplysningen om at en bjælke er et HEA 240 profil, skal altså gives igen i Robot. Når dette er gjort, er konstruktionen klar til at blive behandlet i Robot.
Robot kender profilerne på navnene og har indbygget tværsnitskonstanter m.m. for eksempelvist et HEA 240
