TEK 7.13(13) Organisms and environments. The student knows that a living organism must be able to maintain balance in stable internal conditions in

response to external and internal stimuli. The student is expected to:

(A) investigate how organisms respond to external stimuli found in the environment such as

phototropism and fight or flight; and(B) describe and relate responses in organisms that

may result from internal stimuli such as wilting in plants and fever or vomiting in animals that

allow them to maintain balance.

4.20.11 Word Wall TEK 7.13

• We will create a word wall for homeostasis TEK 7.13

• Warm up: Name the 4 ways we know there has been a chemical change:

Page 3: TEK 7.13(13) Organisms and environments. The student knows that a living organism must be able to maintain balance in stable internal conditions in response.

Homeostasis:

• a living organism must be able to maintain balance in stable internal conditions in response to external and internal stimuli

Page 4: TEK 7.13(13) Organisms and environments. The student knows that a living organism must be able to maintain balance in stable internal conditions in response.

Internal Stimuli:

• when an organism responds to an unbalance inside its self.

• Ex: vomiting, fever, wilting plant

Page 5: TEK 7.13(13) Organisms and environments. The student knows that a living organism must be able to maintain balance in stable internal conditions in response.

External stimuli

when an organism responds to its surround environment

EX: fight of flight or phototropism

Page 6: TEK 7.13(13) Organisms and environments. The student knows that a living organism must be able to maintain balance in stable internal conditions in response.

Fight of flight:

• if an organism feels threatened it responds with adrenaline, which prepares the body to fight or run away.

Page 7: TEK 7.13(13) Organisms and environments. The student knows that a living organism must be able to maintain balance in stable internal conditions in response.

Phototropism:

• when a plant grows towards the light source

Page 8: TEK 7.13(13) Organisms and environments. The student knows that a living organism must be able to maintain balance in stable internal conditions in response.

• Recall: stimuli is something an organism reacts to

• Summary: Explain what type of stimuli you are reacting to when you vomit and have a fever

• Out: Explain what type of stimuli a plant is reacting to when it wilts

** use complete sentences with capital letters, periods, and NO PRONOUNS! **

4.19.11 Edusmart 7.13

• We will use edusmart to learn about stimulus and response and take a quiz

• Warm up: describe thedifference between stimuli andresponse

Page 10: TEK 7.13(13) Organisms and environments. The student knows that a living organism must be able to maintain balance in stable internal conditions in response.

• Recall: Phototropism is when a plant responds to the stimulus of light by growing towards the light source

• Summary: all organisms have to respond to stimuli in order to survive

• Out: Explain a situation where you think your body would go into fight or flight response. Do you think you would fight or flight, why?

** use complete sentences with capital letters, periods, and NO PRONOUNS! **

4.25.11 Stimuli/response Lab

• We will conduct and investigation to understand stimuli and response.

• Warm up: This element has a high luster and is malleable… what type of element is it?

Page 12: TEK 7.13(13) Organisms and environments. The student knows that a living organism must be able to maintain balance in stable internal conditions in response.

• With a partner sort your cards into stimulus and response.

Page 13: TEK 7.13(13) Organisms and environments. The student knows that a living organism must be able to maintain balance in stable internal conditions in response.

• Complete each station. In your journal you need to record the following:

1)Lab name2)The problem/purpose3)Data chart and data collected4)Complete sentence answers to analysis

questions

Page 14: TEK 7.13(13) Organisms and environments. The student knows that a living organism must be able to maintain balance in stable internal conditions in response.

• Recall: organisms can respond to internal or external stimuli

• Summary: Reacting to an abiotic factor would be an example of what kind of stimuli? (use a complete sentence without pronouns)

• Out: Complete the chart with as many examples as you can think of:

External stimuli Internal Stimuli
