Transportation
Urban traffic control and optimization The aim of this research is to optimize vehicular traffic in urban areas. The main applications here considered consist of route guidance and traffic light optimization and coordination.
Design and optimization of innovative transportation systems via ITS The aim of this topic is to apply new technologies to enhance the performances of particular transportation modes, so as to enable new mobility possibilities, and then improve the relevant attractiveness. Particular attention is devoted to car/bike-sharing and car-pooling systems.
7
Performance analysis of transportation systems via discrete event modeling approach In this framework, freight handling in intermodal nodes is represented by means of discrete event models able to easily represent the typical dynamics of man-made systems, like concurrency and synchronization of activities. By means of these models, control and optimization algorithms are designed.
Logistic
• Study, design & development of technological systems to support logistic processes:
• Fleet management for both freight and passengers wagons
• Tracing and Tracking of goods, containers or wagons
• Automation for handling systems in the container loading/unloading process
• Automatic identification and monitoring of containers, freight wagons, and other land vehicles
