Position Overview
The Business Development Manager will manage sales of the company’s energy efficiency and renewableenergy services in a designated territory by identifying objectives, strategies and action plans that deliver shortand longterm success. The Business Development Manager will ensure consistent, profitable growth in salesrevenues through positive planning, deployment and management of sales personnel. The ideal candidate willhave a strong technical background and the business acumen required to translate customer needs into astrategic approach for our suite of service offerings. Our offerings include stand alone lighting and mechanicalsystem upgrades, HVAC control system integration and/or replacements, energy auditing, retrocommissioningand performance contracting.
Key Responsibilities
Hire, manage, and retain sales and sales support staff:Provide regular results assessments of sales staff’s productivityCollaborate with HR team to recruit and onboard new sales talentMentor, train, and continuously develop sales staff
Assist sales personnel in establishing personal contact and rapport with top echelon decisionmakersCoordinate company resources to ensure stable sales results, including lead generation and pipelinedevelopmentCollaborate with Business Unit Manager and Marketing Team to establish and control budgets formarketing collateral, outreach programs and trade show expenses.Work with a crossfunctional team consisting of finance, operations, engineering and marketing teammembers to secure new businessDevelop and take ownership of market growth plans, including vertical market targeting and horizontaloffering strategiesUnderstand competitors within designated regional market in order to position SmartWatt’s uniqueapproach, capabilities and offeringsNegotiate both small and large comprehensive energy projects with clients at the executive level andfacilities staff level within their organizationLead customer meetings and contract negotiationsPresent at public Board or Council meetings when required; cultivate and foster customer relationshipsNetwork within industry
Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Business or a related field (MastersDegree preferred)7+ years of work experience in sales and marketing for a HVAC controls contractor, mechanical contractor, energy services company or related organizationPreferred:
Experience in identifying leads, closing sales and working with a project development teamspecifically for Energy Conservation projectsPast experience and an uptodate knowledge of bestpractices as they relate to upgrading and reducing energy consumption in building mechanical,
