What’s Inside:
Pastoral Selection Committee Takes First Step
Men’s Ministry Rebuilds Fence for Jackie Reynolds
CHURCH-WIDE MINISTRY MOVES INTO EIGHTH YEARSeven years ago this summer Bread of Life opened its doors to the Redding community. Since that first Wednesday volunteers have shown up every week to help ease the burden of those who don’t have quite enough to make ends meet or others who find themselves on hard times.
But the volunteers are just a part of the undertaking. The doors would have closed long ago with out those church members who give to support the purchase of food. Their ministry is the foundation of Bread of Life. Each week Bread of Life spends $200 on eggs, milk, cereal, cheese, yogurt, tuna, soups, canned veggies, potatoes and other staples. There would be no Bread of Life without these generous donors.
Bread of Life exists to give food to the underserved. Yet so much more happens at EC3 each Wednesday morning. Several weeks ago, a

gentleman came for the first time. After being there a while he told Co-founder Ginny Yost, “I just feel something special here.” He was amazed at how people treated him. So while food is the business at hand, loving those in need has become the overriding purpose.
Speaking with each person in a personal way is the standard for connecting with those who patronize Bread of Life. “We are there for more than just handing out food,” says Diane Butler. Individual ministries spring up as these conversations take place. Two volunteers, Martin Nelson and Mike Capithorne circulate around the room visiting and praying with individuals. Most recently the small

THE CONNECTIONprayer that volunteers hold before the start of service was extended to the entire family of clients. Bread of Life now opens with a prayer that includes everyone.
The numbers have been growing at Bread of Life. In mid May there were almost 100 people who signed the register. On a typical Wednesday, there are usually 50 to 70 people. The need is becoming greater.
Ginny Yost says, “We’re just not sure what God has in mind for Bread of Life.” In the early days of the ministry, Ginny and Co-founder Rudy Yost agreed that as long as there were volunteers and faithful donors, that would be the sign to keep the doors open. “The volunteers just keep coming,” says Ginny. “And so far the funds are there every week. We are amazed at how Bread of Life keeps going. God is so good.”
Those who serve continue to look for ways to give people a deeper experience with Christ. Many who use Bread of Life would like to attend Palo Cedro on Sabbath, but it is too far for them to drive. Gas is too expensive. If Palo Cedro could find a van and driver that would go to Redding each Sabbath for pick up and then back for drop off, this would broaden the ministry in a meaningful way.
Bread of Life is also looking for someone with a sturdy pickup truck to transport additional groceries from Shasta Senior Nutrition once or twice a month. Brad Coulter has been doing this job, but he is out of town more and more. Here is your opportunity to serve!
Please contact Gloria Frost at 549-4140 if you would like to help transport people from Redding to Palo Cedro on Sabbath or pick up food from Shasta Senior Nutrition.

PASTORAL SELECTION COMMITTEE TAKES FIRST STEP
To My Palo Cedro Church Family,
On Tuesday evening June 4, Palo Cedro’s Pastoral Selection Committee met with Jose Marin, Executive Secretary of The Northern California Conference. The meeting was an “open meeting,” and there were ten search committee members and four non-committee church members in attendance.
After offering a brief overview of the search process, Secretary Marin asked those present a series of specific questions about our church. From those responses he will develop a profile that will act as a general guideline in our pastoral search. He encouraged all church members to begin submitting names for pastoral consideration and indicated that the conference is open to vetting any and all submissions. At present the timeline expectation for recruitment ranges from six to twelve months depending on a multitude of factors.
In order to address additional questions from the church at large, Secretary Marin has scheduled his next meeting to precede the annual business meeting currently set for June 23rd. The meeting will begin at 4:30 pm in the PC fellowship hall. All interested members are strong encouraged to attend.
Please pray specifically for God’s divine direction as we seek to fill this critical position at Palo Cedro.
In His Service,
Roy Stephens, Head Elder
