PROBLEM: According to USDA data, the National School Lunch Program cost $10.8 billion taxpayer dollars in 2010
SOLUTION: The economic benefits realized through urban farming are localized, keeping dollars circulating through the community. These urban farms also have an AWESOME return on investment, with every $1 invested in a community garden generating $6 worth of vegetables. With these urban gardens strategically placed throughout the district multiple campuses can work and study the land generating food for all the students in the surrounding area.
