StepByStep:Turn Signal Lever ReplacementOneofthemostfragileT34partsistheturnsignalleveronthesteeringcolumn.Thin&elegantalsomakesiteasytobreak.Repairingthesignalleverarm (madeofpotmetal)isnoteasyandattemptstowrapitorglueitareunsatisfactory.Butonceyou’velocatedareplacementleveryou’llneedtoinstallit.Disassembly:Firstbeginbyremovingthehornbutton& hornring.Usea19mm sockettoremovethesteeringnut&washer,thenpullthesteeringwheeloff.RemovethesmallC-clipthat’sontheshaftwithpliers.Behinditisalargecoppercollarandlargespringthatslidesofftheshaft.NextremovethelargethinC-clipthatholdstheturnsignallevertothecolumn.Pulltheturnsignalleverofftheshaft,allowingittodanglebyitstwowires.Underneathyou’llseeanaluminum collarheldinplacewithtwoscrews,removethescrews.Nextremovethetwolargeallen-headscrewsunderthecolumnsoyou’llbeabletoseetheelectricalconnectionunit(below).Finallyremovethetwoscrewsholdingdowntheelectricalconnectorunit.

Beforeremovingtheturnsignalleverfrom thesteeringcolumn,you’llwantto attach wiresto the brown wiresforeasierreassembly.Thetwothinbrownwires(onesolidbrown&onebrown/whitestriped)gothruthesteeringcolumnuptotheturnsignalleverarm (brightsswitch).Cutoffbothendsofthebrownwiresandattachtwolong12”wires(below).Pullthebrownwiresupthruthesteeringcolumnuntilyouseetheotherwirescomethru.Disconnectthewiresandremovetheturnsignalleverunit(aboveright).

Cleaning: thereisa contactplate onthe aluminum collarwhichwillneedtobecleanedforoptimalelectricalcontact.Andthetwocontactspring-loadedbarsonthebacksideofthenewturnsignallever(rightcenter)willalsoneedtobecleaned.Finallyadd some grease to the spring onthe backside forsmootheroperation.

Reassembly: Connectthe new leverbrown wiresto thetemporarywiresand pullthem thruthecolumntowardstheelectricalconnectionunit.Whenthenewwiresarecompletelythruthenremovethetemporarywires.Replacethetwoscrewstotightendowntheelectricalconnectionunit.Reconnect the allen screws(mucheasierifthespeedohasbeenremovedsoyoucansee&holdthetopmetalpart).Installthe two tiny screws on thealuminum collar.Installtheotherpartsandbesuretostraightenthewheelsbeforecenteringthesteeringwheel. Theninstallthehornring& hornbutton. Lastlytesttheauto-returnfunction.
