Volume 26, Number 3 www.mississippidar.org www.mississippidar.org/members December 2014
We have made several changes to streamline the conference, and I hope you will plan to attend and enjoy our new format. We have combined the State Officers Club dinner and opening night events in the same room. We have moved the business sessions to the Penthouse, which allows us to move smoothly to the banquet room for the Patriots’ Luncheon on Friday with no down time. We are honoring our students on Saturday morning, which enables them to attend without missing school. We are honored to have as our guests Librarian General Judy Chaffin, Alabama State Regent Connie Grund, Illinois State Regent Pamela Bork, and Tennessee State Regent Susan Thomas. We will “Soar Like Eagles Celebrating Historic Preservation.” Sessions are planned to be filled with great educational forums, guests, speakers, award presentations, and club events. Highlights will include Friday’s Patriots' Luncheon to honor and thank veterans and Friday night’s Evening at Rosalie. We encourage you to invite veterans to the Patriots’ Luncheon. Instructions for providing the name of the veteran and the branch of service are on the State Conference Registration form. On Saturday a special event is planned for DAR Good Citizens, essay winners, C.A.R., and JAC outstanding youth. Watch for special details on our MSSDAR website mississippidar.org/members. The many hours given by state officers and chairmen in preparation for the 109th Mississippi State Conference are greatly appreciated. Mississippi Daughters continue to soar like eagles, as demonstrated by the number of award certificates presented to chapters at Summer District Workshops. Every chapter received one or more certificates. Thank you for radiating your love for MSSDAR and involving yourselves in DAR events. Together we are mounting to the task and soaring like eagles celebrating the missions of Education, Patriotism, and Historic Preservation!
The first week of October the National Board of Management met. After the adjournment of the meeting, I set off on the DAR tour “Honoring Our Scottish Heritage.” Eighty-eight Daughters and guests from across our country gathered in Edinburgh, Scotland, on Sunday morning, October 5, for a week filled with excitement, adventure, and many learning experiences. What a joy it was to make new friends and fellowship with so many fabulous Daughters who radiate love and the spirit of service by example. October ended with a wonderful Rosalie Day Celebration. Rosalie Governing Board Chairman Pamela White, Board members, and committee members made great plans and executed them well. The sun shone brightly and Rosalie sparkled with a beautiful facelift. Her new paint job and repaired column were wonderful sights. Thank you, Mississippi Daughters! Let’s continue to soar like eagles and complete the paint job by making Rosalie’s back and west sides sparkle as her face does now. What a wonderful sight this will be! Chapter regents are working on end-of-the year reports. I encourage you to report your community service hours for Celebrate America so that your chapter receives credit. Thank you for your prayers, words of support, and encouragement. May you be refreshed each day by God’s spirit as you Celebrate America and Soar Like Eagles.
