Are We Men or Mice? With another Student association business

meeting scheduled for today's assembly it seems pertinent, at this time, to remind again the students of the college of the advisability of knowing what is going on in the hour between 11:10 and noon. To the great majority of assembly seat-warmers a business meeting means either a continuous bore or a semi-comfortable pre-lunch nap. Invariably, these are the people who rail longest and loudest on any and all faults, real and fanciful, about student gov­ernment.

To cite one such incident, how many of us knew more than the title of the National Youth Act so passively voted down some weeks ago/ The act, perhaps radical, had many notably worthy and progressive ideas which could have been discussed.

We will be sitting in the back row. as usual, patiently waiting, hoping for that stiffening of the spine, that alert look, that gleaming eye which comes to him who is interested. Will your eye gleam ?

Is It Practical? An innovation in Stale college's entertain­

ment .schedule emerges tonight in the guise of the All-State dance at the Alumni Residence hall.

State college loves to dance, and the four big class dances of the year are well attended and greatly enjoyed. Four dances, though, spread out over the entire college year cannot seek to cover vast spaces of "in-between" time. To date, the only remedy has been the sorority or fraternity "vie party", which at best is but a small, select gathering. The big class dances, moreover, are also quite expensive and prohibit the attendance of those who could easily come where the cost of the bid is lowered so as just to cover minimized expenses, yet provide an orchestra and the general atmosphere common to an important college function. Informal at­tire will also serve greatly in bringing tint cost gently down to rock bottom, as will the lack of necessity of taxis and flowers.

Student council, then, is giving us an ideal situation, but it depends upon the entire stu­dent association to decide whether the idea is Utopian or practical.

Whi t e it is r e a d i l y a d m i t t e d t h a t bo th t h e Lion a n d the Echo could be g r e a t l y improved , i t is very doub t fu l t h n t t h e e n a c t m e n t of such l eg i s l a t ion wou ld b r i n g a b o u t t h e des i red effect.

I t d o e s n ' t t a k e a n y g r e a t a m o u n t of in te l l igence to rea l ize t h a t tho r e s u l t of c o n s o l i d a t i n g those publ ica­t ions would be a c o m b i n a t i o n of t h e f e a t u r e s of each, p a r t i c u l a r l y w h e n the s a m e people would be respons ib le for t he p u b l i c a t i o n of the now m a g a z i n e . T h e r e would bo seven issues of one m a g a z i n e i n s t e a d of seven issues of two . T h e r e would be h u m o r a n d l i t e r a t u r e , a n d in all p r o b a b i l i t y tho a m o u n t of each would n o t be g rea t l y c h a n g e d . . . , «

T h e c o m p l a i n t which seems to be se t up a g a i n s t tho Lion is t h a t it does no t con t a in e n o u g h o r i g i n a l h u m o r and t h a t w h a t it does con ta in is no t g e r m a i n t o S t a t e college. T h i s is jus t i f ied to a c e r t a i n e x t e n t b u t ono lias a h a r d t i m e t r y i n g to reconci le t h i s c o m p l a i n t w i t h a n o t h e r p u t f o r t h by the same d e b a t e r s . T h e y held t h e cente r s p r e a d of the l a t e s t issue of t h e Lion up to r id icule a s a " S o c i e t y P a g o " a n d th is was u n d o u b t e d l y tho p o r t i o n of tho m a g a z i n e which most conce rned S t a t e college.

P o r h a p s it would be a be t to r idea to h a v e the people who would p r o p o s e such leg is la t ion lend a h e l p i n g hand to the p u b l i c a t i o n s in ques t ion r a t h e r t h a n d e b u n k a t every poss ib le o p p o r t u n i t y . T h e r e is no d o u b t t h a t such a s p i r i t of c o o p e r a t i o n would u l t i m a t e l y r e su l t in be t t e r feel ing all a r o u n d a n d would bo of c o n s i d e r a b l e advan­t age to both m a g a z i n e s .

George Olenson was a t t e m p t i n g to lie a l i t t l e too suave and sophis t i ­c a t e d to fit his own abi l i t ies . His m a k e u p was exce l len t a n d he t r i ed h is b e s t ; however , we felt t h a t lie over­did his role. Mr. A r t h u r played his p a r t we l l ; h i s c h a r a c t e r seemed more a u t h e n t i c t h a n m a n y of his roles have been.
