Dear Parishioners,
As this month is dedicated to the rosary, October is also the month to pray for the worldwide Catholic missions and for missionaries who are around the world dedicating their lives with tireless efforts to proclaim the gospel in remote places. It is not just the priests and sisters who are called to go on the missions; you too are called to be a missionary since your baptism. You are a missionary when you let the light of Jesus shine where you are. You don’t have to go far away to be a missionary; you can be one in this parish and in the place where you work. And sometimes it may be more difficult to be a missionary in your own home and workplace than being in another country. You may know that the Patron Saint of the Missions is St Thérèse of Lisieux, even though she never left the convent, she was proclaimed with Saint Francis Xavier, patrons of the Missions by Pope Pius XI on 1927. Pope Pius XI wanted the faithful to understand that prayer is one of the most profound acts of interceding to God for other people as St. Therese did. She wanted to go to the missions in China, but her sickness of tuberculosis caught her life at the age of 24 when she died. She was only 15 years old when she decided to enter the religious life, and she was only nine years in the convent, but those few years were enough to offer her life not only for the salvation of souls but also to pray for the missionaries around the world. Twenty years ago, on the occasion of the World Mission Sunday on October 19, 1997, Pope John Paul II proclaimed her as a Doctor of the Church because he said that St. Therese will prepare the future harvest of the Church. I encourage you to watch a documentary of her life in the recent web platform that the parish is subscribed in FORMED. The title is The Secret of Saint Therese. As you read this article, I will be in Colombia taking a spiritual retreat for a week in a new monastery founded by a priest friend of mine. Please keep me in your prayers as I keep you in mine. In Jesus and Mary,
From the Pastor
