Patience, people, for the Lord is coming.
“Patience” comes from the Latin root word
for suffering (passio)
Practicing patience can certainly be a suffering, but it is
also a Christian virtue. And the word virtue means strength.
So, when we practice patience, we are strengthening our
spirit. This time of year certainly calls all of our patience into
high gear!
For children (and the child in all of us at holiday time), the
days of December are lived with great patience as they wait
for Christmas to come. Sometimes, it seems to take forever as
they count down the days on the Advent calendar. For adults,
these December days call forth patience as we are waiting in
traffic jams around malls, trying to find parking spaces,
waiting in line to check out, and hunting for that elusive gift.
Patience and waiting are main themes of Advent, along
with expectant hope and joy. We hear it weaved all
throughout the scriptural readings during this season. As we
live the spirit of our liturgical seasons, they are meant to
connect us to the story of salvation history. Advent’s theme of
patient waiting and expectation pulls us into the spirit of
expectant waiting experienced by the people of Israel for
generations, waiting for the promise of the Savior to be
fulfilled. Think of the generations that came and went as they
waited and waited for God’s promise to be fulfilled. We know
that they grew weary and, at times, started to give up hope.
And when that happened, God sent the prophets to remind
them of the promise, and to encourage them and keep them
focused. One day, the promise was fulfilled and the wait was
over. God did keep his promise, but it took a lot of waiting.
Patience, people!
Our relatively short waiting time of Advent is nothing
compared to the generations of waiting by the ancient
Israelites, but it still is waiting for a special day to come. We
are now half way through this Advent season, so how is your
patience holding up? Hopefully, these Advent days have
afforded you times of peace and quiet reflection and
preparation of your heart and soul for the coming birthday of
the Redeemer. If not…you still have 10 days to enter more
fully into the spirit of Advent.
The Church names this 3rd Sunday of Advent as Gaudete
Sunday, or the Advent Sunday of JOY! We light the rose or
pink candle, which is a mixture of the color white (joy) with
purple (penance). So, rejoice! For indeed, the Lord is near!

Advent Meditations with St. Joseph
Sunday, December 15
Time:4:00PM - 5:00PM Cost:$5
Rejoice! is a guided program
with daily meditations which
will enrich your own Advent this
year. The series invites you to
reflect upon the experience of
Joseph and Mary during the
first Advent, as they awaited the
birth of their son, the Savior of
the world.
Imagine Advent through
Joseph's eyes, feel what is in
Joseph's heart, and read the
Scripture that Joseph read, so
you can fully prepare to welcome Jesus into your heart this
Christmas.
THANK YOU!!
Thank you to all the parishioners
who have been supporting The

Our last PREP sessions before Christmas will be this week,
December 15th - 16th. Then, the PREP children and
catechists will enjoy a 2 week break, returning on January
5th - 6th. This week, our last PREP class before Christmas,
we will celebrate an Advent/Christmas Prayer Service
together. Each year at this time, we practice a custom of
choosing our place at the Court of the Infant King. The
children pick a card that has on it a particular figure in the
Nativity scene, and a spiritual practice to live throughout
the coming year that is connected to the figure. We are
grateful to the PREP families for donating items for the
homeless and elderly during this Advent Season. Please
continue to pray for our young parishioners at this holy time
of year. We at PREP wish all in our parish a Blessed
Christmas season!
