Make Me Yours
Christ Renews His Parish
Don’t make me good, Lord.
Make me yours. If all I am is good and I give it, then I
give myself only. But if I’m yours when I give myself,
I give you. And those I love don’t need me, good,
or bad. They need you. So, make me yours.
—John B. Colburn Blessed Mother, show us this week how to give
our lives to God. Lead us in quiet ways to peace-
ful surrender. Our Lady of Mount Carmel, pray
for us. Women’s CRHP Retreat is October 17–18, 2020.

From the Parochial Administrator
Last weekend I spoke before
all the weekend Masses and
addressed two issues that I felt
it was important to act on right
away. As I anticipated, many
people were okay with what I
said, and a few were rather upset. It was never
my plan to come here and make such significant
(and temporary) changes right away, but as
I mentioned, Florida and Tampa Bay are seeing
an alarming rise in positive Covid-19 cases and
I really (really, really) want us to be able to
continue celebrating public Mass.
In case you missed it, I announced that beginning
Monday, July 6 masks are required inside the
church building. Bishop Parkes has said:
“The requirement or recommendation for the
faithful to wear masks while present at Masses in
our parish churches and other facilities remains
up to the discretion of the local pastor.” Even if
you don’t believe that cloth masks serve any
purpose, at the very least they are very visible
reminders that things are not normal. Maybe
think of them as a fun new fashion accessory.
I also asked that all parishioners receive Holy
Communion in the hands for the time being.
Yes, under normal circumstances you have every
right to decide how to receive Communion.
But as we know, these are not normal circum-
stances. Please, for the health and safety of
Fr. Rich, myself, and every person in line behind
you: consider this valid, appropriate, dignified,
and ancient way of receiving. I would not make
this request if we were not in the middle of a
global pandemic.
I can’t help but point to St. Paul’s words in the
second reading for this weekend: I consider that
the sufferings of this present time are as nothing
compared with the glory to be revealed for us.
I promise you, these changes are merely
temporary sufferings, small crosses that we
can bear out of love for one another.
Thanks for the prayers and support that so many
of you have shown since my return. It is so, so
good to be back here at St. John Vianney.
We’ll get through this!
Pro-Life Sunday
This Sunday is Pro-Life Sunday. Donations may be placed in the collection
cradle located in the front lobby of the church. The Rose for Life was presented by the Morrow
family in loving memory of Matthew Morrow. If you would like to volunteer to bring up the
Rose for Life during Mass, you may sign up in
the Rose for Life book located in the front lobby
of the church.

Opening Hymn:
Glory to God Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to people of good will. We praise you, we bless you,
we adore you, we glorify you, we give you thanks for your great glory, Lord God, heavenly King,
O God, almighty Father. Lord Jesus Christ, Only Begotten Son, Lord God, Lamb of God, Son of the Father,
you take away the sins of the world, have mercy on us; you take away the sins of the world, receive our
prayer; you are seated at the right hand of the Father, have mercy on us. For you alone are the Holy One,
you alone are the Lord, you alone are the Most High, Jesus Christ, with the Holy Spirit, in the glory of
God the Father. Amen
Liturgy of the Word
Reading 1 IS 55:10–11 A reading from the Book of the Prophet Isaiah. Thus says the LORD: Just as from the heavens the rain and snow come down and do not return there till
they have watered the earth, making it fertile and fruitful, giving seed to the one who sows and bread to
the one who eats, so shall my word be that goes forth from my mouth; my word shall not return to me
void, but shall do my will, achieving the end for which I sent it. The word of the Lord. R: Thanks be to God.

Responsorial Psalm PS 65:10, 11, 12–13, 14 R. The seed that falls on good ground will yield a fruitful harvest. You have visited the land and watered it; greatly have you enriched it. God’s watercourses are filled;
you have prepared the grain. R. Thus have you prepared the land: drenching its furrows, breaking up its clods,
softening it with showers, blessing its yield. R. You have crowned the year with your bounty, and your paths overflow with a rich harvest;
the untilled meadows overflow with it, and rejoicing clothes the hills. R. The fields are garmented with flocks and the valleys blanketed with grain.
They shout and sing for joy. R.
Reading 2 ROM 8:18–23
A reading from the Letter of St. Paul to the Romans. Brothers and sisters: I consider that the sufferings of this present time are as nothing compared with
the glory to be revealed for us. For creation awaits with eager expectation the revelation of the children
of God; for creation was made subject to futility, not of its own accord but because of the one who
subjected it, in hope that creation itself would be set free from slavery to corruption and share in the
glorious freedom of the children of God. We know that all creation is groaning in labor pains even
until now; and not only that, but we ourselves, who have the first fruits of the Spirit, we also groan
within ourselves as we wait for adoption, the redemption of our bodies. The word of the Lord. R: Thanks be to God.
Gospel MT 13:1–23 The Lord be with you. R. And with your spirit. A reading from the Holy Gospel according to Matthew. R. Glory to you, O Lord. On that day, Jesus went out of the house and sat down by the sea. Such large crowds gathered around
him that he got into a boat and sat down, and the whole crowd stood along the shore. And he spoke to
them at length in parables, saying: “A sower went out to sow. And as he sowed, some seed fell on the
path, and birds came and ate it up. Some fell on rocky ground, where it had little soil. It sprang up at
once because the soil was not deep, and when the sun rose it was scorched, and it withered for lack of
roots. Some seed fell among thorns, and the thorns grew up and choked it. But some seed fell on rich
soil, and produced fruit, a hundred or sixty or thirtyfold. Whoever has ears ought to hear.” The Gospel of the Lord. R. Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.
Gospel Acclamation R. Alleluia, alleluia. The seed is the word of God, Christ is the sower. All who come to him will have life forever. R.
Homily
Fifteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time St. John Vianney Parish Page Six
Offertory Hymn:
Profession of Faith I believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible. I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God, born of the Father before all ages.
God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, consubstantial with the
Father; through him all things were made. For us men and for our salvation he came down from heaven, Bow: and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary and became man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate, he suffered death and was buried, and rose again on
the third day in accordance with the Scriptures. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand
of the Father, He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and his kingdom will have
no end. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son,
who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church. I confess one Baptism for the forgiveness of sins and
I look forward to the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen
