STATE SELECTIONS REPORT:
Sports Shear NSW selects its State Team members from three different shows across New South Wales. To be eligible, these competitors must have resided in NSW for a period of 12 months or more. Each state selects three shearers and three wool handlers, two shearing judges, two Woolhandling judges and a team manager to go on to represent their state at the National Shearing and Woolhandling competition. Sports Shear New South Wales selects the team manager and judges at its AGM which will be held in Dubbo prior to the show in May 2014 The first selection for the shearers and woolhandlers is held in conjunction with the Ben Hall Shears in Forbes. This event was held on 7th Sept 2013. At this event we selected one shearer and two woolhandlers to become state representative’s .These competitors compete in the Open events with the highest placed eligible competitor selected on the day The second shearer is selected in conjunction with the Sapphire Shears hosted by Inverell on the 1st March 2014. The third shearer and wool handler were selected in conjunction with the Dubbo Shearing and Woolhandling Show held on the 24 May 2014. The shearer selected was Daniel McIntyre from Glen Innes and Rachael Hutchison for the woolhandling from Gilgandra. The first shearer selected for 2013/2014 is Wayne Hosie. Wayne is from Gunnedah NSW. He has been shearing for approximately 10 years. He has been competing at shows for 8 years. Wayne has represented New South Wales twice at the National Shearing and Woolhandling titles. Although unsuccessful in gaining a spot in the Australian team, he has again qualified to be part of the 2013/2014 NSW team to go to the National event. The first two woolhandlers selected for the 2013/2014 State team are Angela Wakely and Michaela Laneryie.
Angela is from Yeoval NSW. Angela has been involved in the wool industry for 15 years. This will be the fifth time Angela has represented NSW. She has also been a member of the Australia team twice (2008/2009 - 2012/2013).
