Spoken Language Study
The taskO Discuss how Jo Frost’s language is adapted to
suit the different contexts of Supernanny USA and UK.
O You should include :O Analysis of Supernanny’s sociolect, dialect and idiolect. O A discussion of the influences on her spoken language
choices.O Analysis of how her language is adapted to suit different
contexts.O How her language choices effect others. O How her language is used to assert authority.O The reasons for any differences between the two
situations.
As you watchO Make notes on the following
features:Non-verbal signs: describes the process of communication through sending and receiving wordless messages e.g. through gesture, body language or posture, facial expression and eye contact or even object communication such as clothing, hairstyles, etc...Paralinguistic features: related to body language – it is the use of gestures, facial expressions + other non-verbal elements [such as laughter] to add meaning to the speakers message beyond the words being spoken.
GroupTaskO Find all the examples of the spoken
language feature you have been given to analyse.
O You have 5 minutes before we rotate
SupernannyO Pick ONE line from the transcript of
Supernanny and write a PEE paragraph.
O You need to make at least 2 points in your explain/analyse sentence to show you can do IN DEPTH ANALYSIS.
