Pat: I’vetalkedaboutthisbeforemanytimesinpresentationsand
hereontheshow,theimportanceofcreatingevents.Ithinkthe
challengeisaneasywaytocreateanevent.Aneventissomething
thatpeoplelookforwardto,thattheyfeelliketheyareparticipating
in.Whenyoucangetpeopletogetexcitedaboutsomethinglike
that,itcanreallybringacommunitytogether.Notonlythat,itraises
yourstatusinthespacethatyou’rein.Youbecomeevenmore
ofanauthoritypersonbecauseyou’retheonewho’sputtingthis
on.Allthisexcitementandstuffishappeningunderyouandyour
brand,becauseyou’retheoneactuallyputtingtogetherthis,quote,
“challenge”orevent.That’sanamazingthingtodo.
Itypicallysay,putonlivewebinarQ&Asessionsthatpeoplecan
lookforwardto,orputonameet-upthenexttimeyougotoacity,
oritcouldbealivestreamofsomekind.Thoseareeventsthat
peoplecanlookforwardtoandfeellikethey’reparticipatingin,but
achallengethatallowsthemtogetaresult,that’sthedifference
here.Ithinkwhenpeoplestarttofeelandseetheresultscoming
fromyourteachings,fromthefactthatyouhavehelpedthemina
freeandevensmallway,they’regoingtobemorelikelytotransact
withyoulaterinthefuture.

together,andhiswifegotinvolvedtoowithtakingthephotographs
forthatbook,whichisreallycool.
Inthisparticularepisode,hecamebacktotalkaboutwhathad
happenedsincethefirsttimehewasontheshow,howhisbusiness
hasgrown,andhetalkedaboutareallycoolaffiliatemarketing
strategythatheusedtosellmoreofhisproduct,becausehesells
productsformagicians,andhetappedoutalltheresourcesthathe
couldsellthroughintheonlineworld.Hewasabletocomeupwith
anamazingstrategythatutilizedbrickandmortarmagicstoresto
sellhisonlinebasedproductasanaffiliate,andthatwasreallycool.
WhatIwanttosharewithyoufromthisepisodewasareallyhonest
storythatKentoldaboutsomethingthathappenedinhispastthat
was...Iwasreallythankfulthathewasabletoshareitherewithus.
I’mgoingtoplayaclip,andhewillsharethatstory,butI’mgoing

gueststhatIcanlearnfrom,butattheendofthedayit’sabout
focusandconsistency,gettingdowntoitanddoingityourself.
Here’sthething.Thebiggestwinformewasmyfailure.Iknow
that’sagain,it’sgoingtosoundlikeacontradictioninterm.How
canyousayyourbiggestwinisyourfailure?WhatIlearnedabout
gettingoutthereanddoingitisyoufalloverandyouskinyour
knees,andithurts.You’vegottostandupanddoitagain.It’svery
easytolistentothestoriesandtoreadthematerialthatisavailable
aboutinternetmarketingandonlinemarketingandtothinkthat
it’saneasyworldandthatit’saget-rich-quickworld,butitisn’t.It’s
abouthardwork,andit’saboutfailureandfallingover.
IredefinedfailurefromthisjourneyinthatIthoughtthatfailure
wasIguesshowweunderstandfailuretobe,butit’snotlikethat
anymoreforme.FailureIthinkisgivingup.Ifyoudon’tgiveup,if
youjuststandupanddoitagain,thenyoudon’tfail.Somuchhas
gonewrong.Inthetwoyearssincewespoke,somuchhasgone
wrong,butsomuchhasgonerighttoo.Whensomethinggoes
wrong,I’mabletolearnfromthat,pickmyselfup,dustmyselfoff,
andmoveontothenextthing,Iguess.
I’vegotsomethingreallycoolthatI’mhopingtosharethatIthink
maybevaluable.It’ssomethingthatwepickedupthatweusedin
ourbusinessmakingusalotofmoney,puttinglotsofpeopleonour
list,andwe’regettingsomegreatrelationshipsfromit,anditcame
100%fromfailure.

Iwasinajail,andIwastwo-thirdsthroughathree-yearsentence
fortheft,automotorvehicles,andpettytheftfortryingtosupporta
massivemistakeandahabitthatI’ddeveloped.
Thatday,whenIturned30,Ilookedaround.Ithought,“What
amIdoinghere?”Ineededtopickmyselfup.Ihadsomefriends
thatwereworkinginthekitchen,andwegotsomeflourandwe
gotsomeeggsandwegotsomemilk,andImadesomelittle
doughnuts,andIwentaroundsellingthem.Imadeavowthatfrom
thatdayonIwouldlooktomyownIguessbusinessdirectioninlife
andmakeaprofit.Thatwasamassiveturningpointforme,andit

Nowwe’reabletodocertainthingsthatwewouldn’thavebeen
abletodoifwewerebothintheworkforceorevenifIwasinthe

usourbackgroundwasmostofthetimeourparentswereworking
andwedidn’tseeourparentsveryoften,justlikeIsaid.Igrew
upinday-cares.Ididafter-schoolprograms.Iwasalatchkeykid,
andsoIdidn’tseemyparentsveryoften.AllIhadwasdinnerto
bedtime.Thefactthatthekidscanseeuseveryday,wecanbring
themtoschool,wecanpickthemup.Iftheyhaveadayofforit’s
aweekend,wecanjustspontaneously,youdecidetogotothe
amusementparkorbringthemsomewhereandspendtheday
asafamily.Iknowthat’ssomethingthatalotofpeopledon’tget
becauseoftheirworkscheduleorbecauseofwhatever.Definitely
that’sjustthebenefitisjustbeingthere.
Iknowthekidsappreciateit,becausewhenwe’renotthere,they
totallydon’tunderstandit,andit’sweird.EvenKeoniwillcomeup
tome,andhe’slike,“Oh,So-and-So’sdaddyworksatanofficeall
