BACKGROUND

• Startinginearly2018,theEngagementCommitteehasworkedwiththeStatetoexpandoutreacheffortstoincludetheinputoflocalenvironmentaljusticecommunitiesintheearlyplanningstagesforSaltonSeaManagementProgram(SSMP)projects.Aspartofthiseffort,theCommitteeisworkingwiththeStatetorefinetheapproach,format,andoutreachstrategyforcommunityworkshopsbeginningwithSCHNewRiverWestproject.

GOALS&OBJECTIVES• HelpprovidethepublicwithabroadunderstandingoftheSaltonSeaManagement

Program;primarygoals,benefits,fundingandcurrentstatus.• PresenttheSCH/NRWproject,specificallydetailingthegoals,timelineand

possibilityfortheStatetoincorporaterecreationalopportunitiesthathelpmeetcommunityneedsandpriorities.

• Facilitateaninitialdiscussiontogatherfeedbackontheprojectandidentifyrecreationalamenitiesthatcouldbenefitcommunitypublichealthandqualityoflife.

• EstablishaprocessfortheStatetoinvolvethepublicthroughouttheprocess,collaboratingonincludingdesiredrecreationalamenitiesinthedesignoftheSCH/NRWproject.

• EstablishbestpracticesandmethodsthattheStatecanutilizeinexploringrecreationalopportunitieswithotherSSMPprojects.
