DevelopersDevelopers The Bio-Suit is being
developed at MIT by: Dava J. Newman Jeffrey A. Hoffman And Team
In 1970’s Paul Webb came up with the ‘space activity suit’ idea.
Saul Iberall came with the idea of lines of non-extension.

The Bio-Suit is still in the testing stages of development. They are trying to get a high enough
consistent pressure. They are having some problems around the
joints.
They plan to use ‘smart’ materials and ‘Shape Memory Polymers’ to make the suit easy to take on and off.
The Bio-Suit will provide a means to keep astronauts from losing muscle mass on long space missions.

Future ImplementationsFuture Implementations The Bio-Suit research is funded by a
NASA small business technology transfer grant.
The new Bio-Suit may: Simplify life-support system design Reduce energy expended by astronauts Be safer Cost less
Hopefully the Bio-Suit will be ready in 10 years for planned missions to the Moon and Mars
