“Educational Policy 2.0—Generalist Practice
Generalist practice is grounded in the liberal arts and the person-in-
environment framework. To promote human and social well-being,
generalist practitioners use a range of prevention and intervention
methods in their practice with diverse individuals, families, groups,
organizations, and communities based on scientific inquiry and best
practices. The generalist practitioner identifies with the social work
profession and applies ethical principles and critical thinking in practice
at the micro, mezzo, and macro levels. Generalist practitioners engage
diversity in their practice and advocate for human rights and social and
economic justice. They recognize, support, and build on the strengths
and resiliency of all human beings. They engage in research-informed
practice and are proactive in responding to the impact of context on
professional practice. The baccalaureate program in social work
prepares students for generalist practice. The descriptions of the nine
Social Work Competencies presented in the EPAS identify the
knowledge, values, skills, cognitive and affective processes, and
behaviors associated with competence at the generalist level of practice.

a guided interview, following the composition of an informative essay, and a
subsequent oral presentation about the experience during the exercise.
Because of the complexity of the activity, the facilitator will prompt you to
become familiarized with the activity prior to the next workshop. The facilitator
will provide the students a list of organizations and/or agencies from which the
students will have to select, in order to perform the interview exercise to a Social
Work professional for Workshop Eight. The instructions for the activity will be
provided by the facilitator, or they can also be found as part of the Activities
before the Workshop on Workshop Eight in English.
a. The student should look for the telephone number and address of the
selected agency to coordinate an appointment with the professional.
b. In the coordination of this appointment you must ensure that the person to be

position, has a license and current membership, and has the availability to
conduct the interview.
9. The facilitator will conclude the workshop by reminding the students about the
final Departmental Exam, which will count towards the final grade of the course,
but it is also an assessment instrument of the Council on Social Work Education.
The final Departmental Exam will cover the entirety of the topics discussed in the
activities before and during all workshops. Afterward, the facilitator will also
mention and clarify the tasks assigned for the next workshop. In addition, the
facilitator will remind students of the works and rubrics they must place in their
