• There is a need for EU investments in all
regions to help create economic growth and jobs.
• More developed regions also experience great difficulties ‐
hence the need for EU investments in
the next budget period.
• With the words of Commissioner Hahn: “You have to feed the strong horse, which pulls the others”

Structural funds as leverage to growth and employment in EU
Municipalities and regions create the foundation for growth and employment
in Denmark• All levels of government must work together to
ensure increased growth and employment and the fulfillment
of the Europe 2020 strategy.
• The regional and local levels of government have thorough knowledge of local strengths and
challenges.
• Involvement of the regional and local levels ensures context‐specific solutions and strategies.
Danish National Reform Programme• All Member States have committed to the Europe 2020
strategy. Each country has different economic circumstances and translates the overall EU objectives into national targets in its National Reform Program.
Objectives of the Danish Programme:
• To describe the measures Denmark has already taken and will take to fulfill the targets of the Europe2020 strategy (Smart,
Sustainable and Inclusive Growth)
• To identify structural bottlenecks in order to create new growth possibilities and improved competitiveness.
• To create development, dynamism and growth throughout Denmark.

Our recommendations to the June Spring European Council
1)
EU’s policies must pursue growth and jobfriendly initiatives in line with the EU2020 strategy.

The European budget should create the right investment atmosphere to return to higher growth initiatives in local and regional economies.
3)
Research and development should be the main investment priorities.
