SERIES AT A GLANCE: The Smokies are back on the road for a ten-game road trip, with their first stop in Jackson to take on the Gener-als, the Double-A affiliate of the Seattle Mariners...The two teams squared off earlier this season at Smokies Stadium, with Jackson taking three out of five games...INF Kris Bryant in that first series posted a .308 average (4-13) with three runs, two doubles, a homer, two RBI and three walks in those five contests...Generals INF Mickey Wiswall hit .429 (6-14) with two doubles, a homer and two RBI in four games, while OF Ketel Marte batted .357 (5-14) with three runs and two walks in his five contests...Tennessee last season won 16 of 19 meetings, including all but one of the ten matchups in Jackson.

WELL WHAT HAPPENED WAS: Birmingham avoided a series sweep at the hands of Tennessee at Smokies Stadium last night with a 6-4 victory...The Smokies made things interesting in the ninth, however, narrowing what was a four-run deficit to just two in the ninth, in addition to putting the tying run on base and bringing the winning run to the plate...1B Charlie Cutler (2-4,1 R, 2 RBI) and DH Rubi Silva (2-4, 1 2B, 2 RBI) each recorded two hits and drove in two runs, while C Rafael Lopez (2-4, 2 R) also tallied a multi-hit effort in the loss...The Smokies bullpen was solid again, combining to allow a lone earned run on four hits to keep the club within distance of the Barons...Reliever Austin Kirk fired three shutout frames in support of starter Corey Black (3.0 IP, 3 H, 5 R, 3 ER, 3 BB, 5 SO), who suffered the loss.

TONIGHT’S SMOKIES STARTER: RHP Ivan Pineyro is slated to get the start for the Smokies in tonight’s series opener in Jackson...The native of the Dominican Republic did not receive a decision in his last outing on May 5 versus Birmingham after allowing five runs (one earned) on six hits in 4.2 innings pitched...In his first start against Jackson this year in Kodak, Pineyro did not factor in the decision on April 18 despite yielding just two hits in 6.2 scoreless frames, punching out eight Barons batters...In two road starts this season, the 22-year-old owns an 0-1 record and 3.72 ERA (4 ER in 9.2 IP), compared to an 0-1 clip and 1.69 ERA (4 ER in 21.1 IP) in four outings at Smokies Stadium...Left-handed hitters have struggled mightily this year facing Pineyro, managing just a .114 average (4-35), while righties have hit .289 (24-83) this season against the Cubs’ No. 21 prospect according to Baseball America.

TONIGHT’S GENERALS STARTER: Set to oppose Pineyro this evening for the Generals in game one is LHP Kyle Hunter...The southpaw suffered the defeat in his last start on May 5 at Huntsville after giving up two earned runs on five hits in 3.1 innings of relief...The lefty’s lone start of the year came on April 17 at Tennessee, when he did not factor in the decision after going two scoreless innings in the second game of a doubleheader...In six relief outings this year, Hunter has posted an 0-1 record and 3.38 ERA (5 ER in 13.1 IP)...In five appearances (one start) in the month of April, the 24-year-old compiled no record and a 2.70 ERA (3 ER in 10.0 IP)...Right-handed batters have fared well against Hunter, hitting for a .326 clip (14-43), compared to a .211 mark (4-19) for left-handed hitters...In six outings (one start) versus Tennessee last season, the southpaw accumulated a 1-0 record and 0.77 ERA (1 ER in 11.2 IP).

BRING ON THE SOUTHPAWS: Tennessee this season has recorded a 6-2 record this year when facing a left-handed starter, compared to a 14-13 mark versus right-handed starting pitchers...OF John Andreoli has hit .370 (10-27) with two doubles, three RBI, seven walks and a .500 on-base percentage when facing southpaws, while INF Kris Bryant has posted a .346 clip (9-26) with a double, two homers, two RBI and six walks...The Smokies themselves have not started a left-handed pitcher this season.

ANDREOLI STILL GOING STRONG: OF John Andreoli reached base with a walk in his first plate appearance to extend his on-base streak to a 2014 Southern League-best 28 games...The streak is also the circuit’s longest since former Missisippi C Christian Bethancourt’s 40-game streak between June 13 through August 26, 2013...During his streak, which began on April 6, Andreoli has hit .313 (30-96) with 26 runs, four doubles, two triples, seven RBI, 21 walks and a .442 on-base percentage...In that stretch, Andreoli ranks first in the league in runs scored, second in stolen bases (16) and on-base percentage (.442) and tied for fourth in walks...The outfielder has also reached in all but one of his 33 games played this season, which was on April 5 at Pensacola.

HIP HIP, JORGE!: In his first two games back from the Disabled List, OF Jorge Soler has collected hits in three of his six at bats, and has also collected two runs, two doubles, two RBI and two walks...The 22-year-old recorded a double in his first Double-A at bat on Opening Night in Pensacola on April 3, but was removed from the contest and placed on the Disabled List the next day before returning on May 8...Baseball America’s No. 41 overall prospect has hit .571 (4-7) this season with two runs, three doubles, two RBI and two walks.

BRUNO’S STREAK SNAPPED: INF Stephen Bruno saw his seven-game hit streak snapped with his 0-for-4 outing last night...Prior to Friday evening, Bruno had hit .542 (13-24) in the month of May, adding ten runs, nine doubles, eight RBI, four walks and a .621 on-base percentage...Bruno’s nine doubles this month are still best in the Minor Leagues, while the infielder’s 11 doubles this season rank him first in the Southern League ahead of three players with ten, including Smokies C Rafael Lopez.

ON THE ROAD AGAIN: Tennessee in 15 road contests has combined to hit for a .244 clip (126-516) with nine homers and 75 runs scored this season...In 14 road games, OF John Andreoli has recorded a .354 average (17-48), adding 14 runs, a double, two triples, three RBI, ten walks, eight steals and a .475 on-base percentage...The club is also averaging 5.0 runs per game on the road compared to 4.25 at home, and 8.4 hits per away contest, in comparison to 7.8 at Smokies Stadium...The team has also won seven of their last ten tilts away from Kodak after falling in four of their first five.

RIDICULOUS RELIEVERS: In their last 12 games, Smokies relievers have combined to accumulate a 1.49 ERA (10 ER in 60.1 IP), which came after allowing 12 runs in 2.2 frames to the Huntsville Stars on April 25...The bullpen combined at one point to set down 21 consecu-tive batters, including 37 of 41...The Smokies have also converted each of their last seven save opportunities...Armando Rivero and Hunter Cervenka rank first and second respectively among the league’s relievers in lowest batting average against, whiel Rivero’s 13.75 strikeout per nine inning ratio is also tops in that company...Cervenka in addition has allowed the second-fewest baserunners per nine innings (7.36) in that company.
