An internal-combustion engine is any engine that operates by burning its fuel inside the engine. Internal combustion engines efficiency is about 35%. Most of the energy generated by burning the fuel in the combustion chamber is lost in water cooling and exhaust [4].
During every cycle in a typical four stroke engine, piston moves up and down twice in the chamber, resulting in four total strokes and one of which is the power stroke that provides the torque to move the vehicle.
In a six stroke engine there are six strokes and out of these, there are two power strokes. The automotive industry may soon be revolutionized by a new six-stroke design which adds a second power stroke, resulting in much more efficiency with less amount of pollution.
Introduction
History
The word “Six Stroke Engine” was first introduced by Er Samuel Griffen in 1883.But it’s large heavy construction didn’t fit for Automobiles.
After this many other engineers worked in this field. And in 1989, Roger bajulaz invented a modified “Six Stroke Engine”. Some other engines were also invented by2006 like Velozeta, Crower, Beare, M4+2, Piston charge Engine etc.
The latest invention is Niykado Six Stroke Engine invented by Chanayil Cleetus AnilKerala, India Which seems to be fit for Automobiles.
Key Features :
Efficiency is increased in six stroke engine, Torque is increased by 35% in six stroke
engine. Reduction in fuel consumption. Reduction in pollution. Lower engine temperature so no need of extra
cooling system.
Types :
The Six Stroke Engine is a type of internal combustion engine based on the Four Stroke Engine, but with additional complexity to make it more efficient and reduce emissions. Two different types of Six Stroke Engine have been Developed since 1990s.
1. Opposed piston type Engine - This type of engine uses a second opposed
Piston in each cylinder that moves at half the main piston, thus giving six Piston movements per cycle.
2. Additional Power Stroke Type – This Engine captures the heat lost from the
Four stroke otto cycle or diesel cycle and uses it to an additional power And exhaust stroke of the piston in the same cylinder. Designs use Either steam or air as the working fluid for the additional power stroke.
Examples of the types of Engines :
1. Opposed piston type Engine –
• Beare Engine• M4+2• Piston Charger Engine
2. Additional Power Stroke Type –
• Bajulaz Engine• Niykado Engine• Crower Engine• Velozeta Engine

Advantages of Six Stroke Engine -
1. In six stroke engine the change in volume during the compression stroke is slightly higher than four stroke engine after the ports are closed. 2. The expansion stroke is also much greater in six strokes than four strokes, both from T.D.C. to B.D.C. and from T.D.C. till the exhaust port is open. 3. More energy is extracted from the expansion stroke in six strokes. 4. Torque is increased by 35% in six stroke engine. 5. Efficiency is also increased in six stroke engine. 6. Reduction in pollution. 7. Reduction in fuel consumption. 8. Lower engine temperature so no need of extra cooling system.
Applications
Motor boats (inboard and outboard engines) might offer a big outlet for this type of Engine. Their characteristics are perfectly suited to it’s use (economy, safety, simplification and reduction in noise and pollution). Furthermore, the use of fuels other than gasoline would greatly reduce the risks of explosion.
Using non-fossil fuel of vegetable origin, natural gases and others, in simple, robust engine, operating with a minimum of adjustments and non-pollutant, would offer great advantages when provided for motor-pumps, generators sets, stationary engines, etc… intended for agriculture and industry.
Many more applications may also be envisaged.
CONCLUSION :
It is commercially obvious that the big market it for automobile, heavy goods, construction site and farm vehicle. This is a priority for the six stroke engine ,reducing fuel consumption and pollution without any effect on performance will reassessed the concept of the automobile .
There is, at this day, no wonder solution for the replacement of the internal combustion engine. Only improvements of the current technology can help it progress within reasonable time and financial limits. The six-stroke engine fits perfectly into this view.
It’s adoption by the automobile industry would have a tremendous impact on the environment and world economy, assuming up to 40% reduction in fuel consumption and 60% to 90% in polluting emissions, depending on the type of the fuel being used. Automobiles equipped with the Six Stroke Engine could appear in the World market within 3 to 5 Years.
