Background and purpose of the document
• Next document to be prepared in the LDF following adoption of the Core Strategy in July 2011
• The Core Strategy: sets out overall amount of development in Rutland and
distribution between the towns and villages over the next 15 years to 2026.
Provides overarching planning policies • First stage of the consultation process on the Site Allocations
document – seeking views on the issues to be addressed and options for dealing with them

Purpose of documentWill develop the overarching policies of the Core Strategy by:
• identifying and allocating specific sites for development
• detailing any policies that require designation on the proposals map (e.g. Planned Limits of Development, Important Open Spaces, Rutland Water Area)
• providing more detailed planning policies to be used in decisions on planning applications

• Maps in Appendices show sites previously put forward for development by developers and others
• “Call for Sites” September 2010 - many more sites put forward than will be needed – only small proportion will need to be allocated

Consultation process
• Consultation period 8 September 2011 - 30 November 2011
• Parish Councils & Meetings sent letter and copies of the consultation document
• Officers attending meetings of the larger villages (“Local Service Centres”)
• Special Parish Forum meeting held on 28 September for smaller villages

• Exhibition at libraries, Victoria Hall and Council Offices in Oakham
• Officers available at exhibitions to discuss and answer questions
• Leaflet send to very household in Rutland – September 2011
• Advertised in local papers

• Forms for submitting comments to the council
• On-line form on Council’s website for submitting comments
• Comments can also be submitted by email and in writing
• closing date 30 November 2011

Future stages and timetable
• More detailed assessment of the sites and any additional sites put forward through consultation
• Preparation of the “Preferred Options” document showing the preferred sites to be allocated
• April-May 2012 - Consultation on the Preferred Options document • November-December 2012 - Submission to Secretary of State
• June 2013 - public examination
• December 2013 - adoption by the Council
