ATLANTIC EUROPE’SEPICUREAN JOURNEY
Silversea Expeditions offers an epicurean journey to discover some of the most authentic cuisine Europe has to offer. From Portugal all the way up the Atlantic coast of France, you will sample some of the finest delicacies. With cannelés and wines in Bordeaux, to crêpes in Mont Saint Michel, and fresh oysters in the medieval town of Saint Malo, you are sure to find something that satisfies the most curious of your taste buds.
EXPEDITION HIGHLIGHTS
• Visit UNESCO World Heritage sites• Join a private opening of the Guggenheim Museum
for Silversea guests only!• Savour France’s Bordeaux wine region• Partake in culinary events aboard and ashore
If one of your most enjoyable parts of expedition cruising is to have the opportunity to get fully immersed with the local culture, then join us aboard Silver Explorer for an epicurean journey along the Atlantic coast of Europe.
You will visit Oporto’s city centre (a UNESCO World Heritage site), which boasts the Castelo Queijo and the impressive 14th century St Francis Church. And to round it all off, there’s a visit to a well-known wine cellar for a taste of some world famous port wine.
This exceptional journey continues at the Guggenheim Museum of Modern Art in Bilbao which will be specially opened especially for Silver Explorer’s guests, and include a privately guided visit. Afterwards, you will have the opportunity to try different meat and seafood pintxos paired to wines of the region.
As Silver Explorer moves north along the European Atlantic coast, you will explore the historical sights of Bordeaux during our first afternoon, before we turn to its culinary highlights the following day: a visit to the classified wine Château Lynch-Bages in the heart of the Medoc.
Finally we will enjoy a special lunch at Relais & Châteaux Cordeillan-Bages (2* Michelin). UNESCO has accepted the French gastronomic meal onto the list of intangible cultural heritage, and Silversea and Relais & Châteaux have the pleasure of drawing circles of family and friends closer together through a memorable meal in a historical setting.
Arriving in Guernsey – the Island of Flowers – you may choose to visit the lovely Sausmarez Manor for a deliciously quintessential English tea party.
Returning to the French coast, you will enjoy a morning visit of the legendary and spectacular granite tidal island of Mont Saint Michel, or visit Cancale to savour its oysters and crêpes.

The Belgium-born chef has brought to the table a continual desire to elevate Silversea’s culinary excellence. His most recent achievement is an exclusive partnership with Relais & Châteaux, and Silversea’s L’Ecole des Chefs programme, the only Relais & Châteaux cooking school at sea. Prior to joining the Silversea fleet, Chef Rudi cooked his way across Europe in top London hotels, culminating with the legendary Dorchester, where he was Executive Sous Chef in charge of a 140-chef brigade. Tom BadcockCheese Specialist
As one of Britain’s foremost cheese specialists, Tom Badcock’s depth of knowledge is unparalleled. Tom was raised on a farm in Warwickshire, which is where he learned how to hand milk goats and make cheese. After studying dairy technology at college, he travelled halfway across the world to Australia to help set up Australian cheesemakers. Since returning to England and settling in London, Tom supplies fine cheeses to top Michelin chefs and the finest hotels of London. He lectures on cheeses and food history at the top catering colleges in the UK.

Though his career began in Italian art publishing, and as an agent for a Medieval and Renaissance music ensemble, the wine world beckoned. After working in the wine distribution and retail industry in Miami, he studied winemaking at Tenuta di Arceno, Kendall-Jackson’s Chianti Classico estate in the heart of Tuscany, and became the winemaker and director of the boutique Chianti Classico Winery Villa Casale. Lawrence also currently serves as a wine production consultant, a winemaking and tasting guide, as well as a cultural and historical guide in Italy.
