Captain Lazar’s Message
Captain David Lazar
Commanding Officer Central Station
Traffic Enforcement
In an effort to reduce collisions and educatemotorists regarding the dangers of improperdriving, we conduct regular focused trafficenforcement. This is in addition to citations issuedto motorists by officers on patrol.
Officers at Central Station do an outstanding job. Iwould like to highlight the work of Foot beatOfficers Sam Yuen and Howard Chu who areassigned to foot patrol in Chinatown in theevenings. Periodically, they will ride in a patrolcar and conduct traffic enforcement.
Here is an example of some of the work they did in October.
Officer Sam Yuen issued 46 citations. 3 for red lights, 2 for failing to yield to apedestrian, 16 for speeding, 23 for prohibited turns and 2 for other violations.
Officer Howard Chu issued 23 citations, all for improper turns.
These two Officers are making a difference in our community!
Community Presentations
This week I had the opportunity to meet and speak with the Nob Hill Association. Iapplaud them for their commitment to the community. I reminded them to remainsafe by not walking around with electronic devices such as “smart phones” in theirhands. We are seeing incidents where the suspects are robbing victims for theirphones. In addition to being a target for thieves, a person is distracted and notaware of their surroundings.
Pumpkin Give Away
Thanks to our partnership with the Chinatown Community Development Center, andthe Garden Project, we handed out 200 pumpkins to Ping Yuen Housing residentslast Friday, a day before Halloween. It was a great time (see photos).
Halloween in the Central District
It was a relatively calm Halloween in the Central District. It was nice seeing familieswalking with their children in the neighborhood all dressed up in costume. Therewere some great events on Saturday, such as the event at the Tel Hi Center as wellas the Ping Yuen and at the Willie Woo Woo playground on Sacramento Street.
