1 .1 Introduct ionThis manual contains field and factory level servicing information for theTexas Ins t ru men ts Extens a 51x Series of Notebook Computers (Figure1-1). This section provides a general overview and specifications for theExtensa 51x Series Notebook Computers.
1 .2 Produ c t Mode lsThe two initial offerings in the 51x Series are differentiated by the softwareins tal led on t he s ystem a t th e factory. The Model 510 conta ins Win dows 95an d th e Model 515 includ es Win dows 95 a n d a variety of ap plicat ions a ssu mm arized in Tab le 1-1. Each m odel ma y conta in ei ther th e 540 m ill ionbyte ha rd d isk drive (-00xx part nu mb er su ffix) or 810 m ill ion byte h ar ddrive (-01xx part number suffix).

2. Remove the DIMM modu le(s) from its sh ipping conta iner.

3. Releas e th e Keyboar d by pu ll in g the keyboard r eleas e tab s forward(tabs are loca ted u nd ernea th the Ctr l an d r ight a r row keys).
4. Disen gage th e Keyboar d u sing a str aigh t blade screwdriver an d gentlylifting up along the front edge of the keyboard.
5. Usin g the b ack edge of th e keyboard a s a h in ge, li ft th e front edge of the keyboard u p a nd lay it aga ins t th e d isp lay.
6 . In ser t th e edge of th e DIMM Board into th e lower conn ector (refer toFigure 2 -1). Use a rockin g motion to ful ly in sert the modu le. Pus hdownward on ea ch s ide of th e DIMM module u n ti l i t sna ps in place.
7. Repeat th e procedur e in St ep 6 (u pper conn ector) to ins tal l th e secondDIMM modu le.
8. Replace the keyboard a ssem bly and an y other componen ts rem oved inStep 1 .
This completes the expansion memory module instal lat ion procedure.

1. Ens ure th a t both the notebook and the externa l moni tor a re tur nedoff.
2. Locate th e 15 -pin fema le VGA port on th e rea r of the n otebook.
3. Attach th e ap propriate en d of the mon itor cab le to th e VGA port onyou r n otebook. If the m onitor cable conn ectors h ave retaining screws,t ighten th em down.
4. If neces sa ry, conn ect the m onitor power cable to the mon itor, andplug th e mon itor power cable into a n electr ical outlet .
5. Power on th e m onitor, as well as an y other periph eral devicesconn ected to th e notebook; then power u p th e n otebook.
