Merry Christmas to everyone from the Frederica Senior Center Staff and the members of the Board.
The Frederica Senior Center will be Closed September 4th for Labor Day
Summer is ending and autumn beginning, so much is happening at our center, we are
progressing on our building expansion, it has been two years in the making. We are anxious to
have it completed. We still have interior renovations to complete in the dining room, we are
seeking funding to accomplish the final phase of our expansion, When completed we will have
one hundred additional seating, to accommodate our members for meals; we will also have a
small stage area for Bingo and entertaining.
You can help us accomplish this task, for $125.00, you can purchase a nameplate to buy
one square foot of our expansion. Your donation is tax deductible and can really make a
difference. Much Thanks to all who have already purchased a plaque. Thus far, we have
$3,500.00 our goal is $10,000.00.
As you know we had to reduce our hours, due to Grant and Aid cuts, so far we are
making it work, without cutting any service and remaining open five days a week. We
appreciate all your support and patience during that time; I will continue to seek grants to
supplement our income so we may continue meeting the needs of our members.
We understand many of our members are on fixed income and cannot afford to aid the
center financially, we understand that, every one of our members are important to us
regardless of financial status. Our center’s purpose is to meet the needs of the elderly,
disabled, disadvantaged, and veterans and mentally challenged. We are here to provide a Happy
and safe place to get a hot home cooked meal, activities, entertainment, outreach,
transportation, health screenings, food pantry, personal hygiene pantry, and most of all we are
family. So thank you for being part of our FSC family.
My door is always open, if you have any concerns or questions, I will do my best to an-
swer them.
Our first auction was successful with the help of many volunteers, and donations we
were able to make over $2,000.00 dollars, each one of our fundraisers is important to our
center, these funds supplement our food, purchase items that are needed and they are lots of
fun.

ribs, mac and cheese, baked beans for dinner. BYOB 4-8 pm tickets on sale now. No tickets will

GETTING TO KNOW YOU
by Doris Hoover
Three little words…. “Let us pray.” These three little words are said every noon hour at the Frederica Senior Center. The blessing is offered by FSC member Herman Wagner, Jr. before the Pledge of Allegiance to the US flag. Herman is a FSC life member, a faithful and a reliable volunteer. He enjoys his early morning hours, lunch, and bingo games with his friends while occupying the same seat every day.
Herman was born April 30, 1933, in Elizabeth NJ to Herman Sr. and Arena Wagner. His father worked for Standard Oil of NJ and his mother was a stay at home mother. Herman received his education in the Elizabeth NJ schools. After graduating from Thomas Jefferson High School, he entered the US Air Force, retiring after 23 years as a Tech. Sgt. Herman served honorably during the Korean War and also the Vietnam War. Moving to Delaware, now residing in Felton, Herman was employed with the Delaware Canteen Vending Service, working out of Cheswold and Dover, DE. He retired a second time with 19 years on the job. Herman was married has two sons and six grandchildren. He is also a member of the Felton VFW, Felton Fire Company, and retired Fire Police.
Favorites are the color blue, corn on the cob, and shrimp. Herman enjoys having an appetizing meal at Rudy’s Restaurant in Harrington once or twice a month. But Herman’s much loved and most favorite are his cats. He feeds many feral cats every day. (A feral cat is a cat that has been born to other ferals or from stray cats as opposed to domesticated cats.) These ferals are unaccustomed to human interaction but there is a welcoming communication with Herman. He always has a daily meal for them.
Herman Wagner, Jr. is our member of the month. He passes on to you the words “Take care of yourself.” Please give him an enthusiastic welcome. We thank him whole heartily for his inspiring words of thankfulness every day.
