Summer Quarter Begins
Sunday, May 1,2016 Wed. Night May 4, 2016
At the outset of our year, we began our journey together looking to the start of a new year and what would be on our minds through the new year, and the power of the mind and the power of thinking when it comes to shaping our days and molding our minds in the direction of faith and courage to overcome whatever may be in our way. Suggestions were offered as it pertains to the focus of our thoughts, rooted in the power of the Holy Spirit’s inspiration, “Whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things, and the God of peace will guard your hearts and minds through the Lord Jesus Christ” (Philippians 4:8-9). There is power in the mind and heart which chooses to look on the things which it knows come from God and can help guide even through the darkest moments of our days and the consuming moments of conflict. When our theme was set for 2016 (“First Love”) we knew this time of year would be the time of year when we begin to enter into the season of change, transition, and new beginnings. Such a season was similarly in the life of Paul, not knowing what was awaiting him in his immediate future, but this one thing he had resolved in his heart and mind, “For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain” (Philippians 1:21). Hearts are challenged in every season of life by the changes we encounter, the choices we experience, and the challenges we endure. The inability to predict the outcome of future events, remains a certainty. What resonates as our opportunity is the decision to glorify the life of Christ each day, or gain the promise of Christ in death. I hope you know, no matter what comes of our future, the gain is always ours through Jesus Christ.
