Purpose
Seal Gards provide a unitized, cost effect means of delivering cool, clean flush water to mechanical seals
• Key benefits
- Regulates flush flow rate
• Saves money
• Assures adequate flow for seal cooling
• Eliminates excessive flush rates which can cause seal face erosion
- Diagnostic instrumentation
• Includes flow and pressure gauges in order to visually check the seal’s operating environment
- Alarms
• Alerts control room of a loss of flush water so that immediate action can be taken to save the seal
3
Water Consumption Benefit
Using even 7.5 LPM (2 GPM) more flush water than necessary can get expensive
Example:
• $0.0004/Gallon cost of water (Frequently up to 4x higher)
• 7.5 LPM (2 GPM) savings in seal flush flow
• Continuous flush whether equipment is running or not (525,600 minutes per year)
(0.0004)*(2)*(525,600) = $420 USD per year savings
Seal Gard regulates flush water usage to precisely what the seal needs, which saves water and money

Capacity for Dual Alarms
20
• Dual flowmeters allow multiple alarms and easier troubleshooting
- High flow alarm detects:
• Potential need to adjust flow regulating valve
- Differential pressure between supply and return has increased
• Excessive seal leakage
- If flow continues with pressurizing valve closed, the seal is leaking
- Low flow alarm detects:
• Loss or drop in supply pressure
• Clog in system
- If flow regulating valve is open and normal flow cannot be restored
- High supply-side alarm and low return-side alarm detects:
• Excessive seal leakage
• Clog in system
Dust caps installed at top of flowmeter tubes
Note plunger rods safety stored in mounting bracket
Seal Gard 32 and 54 Constant Flow Regulator
• Constant flow regulator
- Should be used if the supply pressure or seal chamber pressure varies widely
• Symptom of variable pressures in the system include:
- Changes in the indicated flowrate
- False alarms from the low or high flow alarm sensor
- Rated to 20.7 bar (300 psig)
- C0448260DB [up to 10 LPM (2.6 GPM)]

Frequently Asked Questions
• What are the material options for improved chemical compatibility?
- If the POM standard body is not compatible with the service or the environment, a PVDF body is available
- EPDM elastomers are available as an option
- The PSU flowmeter tube and 316ss wetted metal parts cannot be changed to other materials
• Can I use Seal Gard with other flush fluids?
- Since Seal Gard can be isolated from the process fluid by a check valve, it can be used in many services other than water, however Seal Gard is designed for use only with clean water flushes. Fluids with different densities, viscosities, and solids content may not work well in Seal Gard.
• Can I order Seal Gard with accessories such as the alarm switch, constant flow regulator, or stand pre-installed?
- Yes, it is possible to order Seal Gard with accessories pre-installed, however a new assembly number will need to be created and the lead-time will likely be much longer.
34
Troubleshooting
Seal Gard 32 (Single Seals) and 54 (Dual Seals)
• No flow or low flow alarm
- Cause: Supply pressure lower than seal chamber pressure
- Action: Check supply pressure, check seal chamber pressure, clean Seal Gard
Seal Gard 54 (Dual Seals)
• High pressure
- Causes: Back pressure valve too close or supply pressure too high
- Action: Adjust back pressure valve and inspect flush water supply header pressure
• High flow alarm possibly with low pressure
- Causes: Inner seal failure OR back pressure valve too open
- Action: Adjust back pressure valve
• If flow continues after back pressure valve is closed, then the inner seal has failed
• Low pressure may indicate a pressure reversal has occurred, correct back pressure valve and check inner seal integrity 35
Seal Gard I and II AvailabilitySeal Gard I and II are limited to the existing configurations only
• Any new configurations will require a Seal Gard 32 or 54
