Recently theMuseum of Science andIndustry (MOSI), locatedat 4801 E. Fowler Ave. in Tampa, unveiledit’s newest exhibit, Sea MonstersRevealed. The exhibition, which willremain at MOSI until September 2nd ofthis year, explores the wonders of theoceans and the sea creatures that inhabitits depths in a way that has never beenseen before: by bringing the creatures tothe surface and showcasing them for thepublic to see. The exhibit houses over 200real animals, from a 15-ft. mako shark andsix ft. wide manta ray to the rarely seengiant squid and even a 3,000 pound whaleshark.

The technique used to preserve theanimals is called plastination and is thesame technique used to create the Bodiesexhibit that MOSI showcased some timebefore. “MOSI is thrilled to host the worldpremiere of Sea Monsters Revealed,” saidMOSI President, Wit Ostrenko. “We

believe that it will set a new standard fortraveling exhibitions and has the potentialto match the tremendous impact createdby the world premiere of Bodies…TheExhibition.”

In much the same way that Bodiesexplored the human body, Sea MonstersRevealed takes a look at the inner com-ponents of the monsters we’ve seen inbooks and heard about in old sailor’s

lore. While at times a bitunnerving for those with lessthan cast iron stomachs, thecollection was nothing short ofimpressive and absolutely ded-icated to the utmost of detail.“I'm not a big fan of anatomy,”said visitor, Clive Martin. “But I

was very impressed with the detail andrange.”

Many of the displays were interactive, one even allowing you to control an under-water arm. Other displays allowed you tosee inside a wide variety of sea creaturessuch as a giant sunfish, a shark and evena penguin. “We want to inspire people,”said Vice President of Development, MollyDemeulenaere. “We wanted to get kids toask about science.”
