• 16.4 percent of Maine households, or more than 200,000 people are foodinsecure
• Maine ranks 16th in the nation and 1st in New England for food insecurity• Child food insecurity: 21 percent, or nearly 1 in every 5 children, are food
insecure (55,000 children)
Pine Tree Council in partnership with People's United Bank will help combat this with the 2018 Scouting for Food Drive.
Food collection will be on November 10th 2018 throughout the Pine Tree Council.
This will be a combination of the traditional door to door neighborhood collection and fill the tent events at grocery stores and other locations.
Food will be distributed by local food banks to our neighbors in need.
Goals:
• Collect over 25 tons of food and distribute it to our neighbors in need• Enable our scouts to be better citizens in the community• Raise awareness in the community of local scouting and the Pine Tree

UNIT TIMETABLE
October
!November 3rd
Unit recruits unit coordinator for Scouting for Food.
Unit sign up for participation with district.
Determine how many people will participate from unit and how many flyers you will need.
Share information with unit leadership and membership.
Continue to coordinate transportation for delivery and pick-up.
Determine food drop off location at a local food bank. Contact food drop off location and coordinate drop off times. Ask location to plan on 100lbs per scout collecting. Set that as your minimum goal!
Schedule a fill the tent event in addition to your door to door event. It is easy! Ask a local grocery store if you can have a fun fill the tent food drive at their store. Schedule uniformed scouts and leaders. Pitch a small tent and ask folks to drop off food on the way out to help feed their food insecure neighbors. This is a great way to collect food and spread the word about the great things scouting does!
November 10th Pick up food in your assigned territory and deliver to your assigned drop off site.
Set up your Scouting for food tent and man it with scouts. Bring Shopping list flyers to hand out so that shoppers can fill the tent with what our neighbors need!
Report your collection totals by filling out the reporting sheet and emailing to [email protected] or faxing to (207) 655-6282.
Distribute flyers throughout your area. Make sure your scouts track where they distribute flyers so that all food left by donors is picked up on the following Saturday.

Unit SFF coordinators should work with the other units in their area to determine exactly where their scouts should distribute. To avoid duplication and ensure maximum coverage you must coordinate with neighboring packs and troops.
