Westside School is proud to present our Summer Enrichment Programs
Join us for six weeks of amazing science, art, sports, and writing! Enrollment is available now for students entering kindergarten through eighth grade.
Please be sure to choose the enrichment program(s) you would like to participate in during
the week, plus an alternate. If you do not designate your programs,
they will be assigned to you by the coordinator.
If you choose an active program, please be sure to pack athletic clothes, closed-toe gym
shoes, a hat and a water bottle. If your class is going off campus, and you are under the
age of eight, please bring your booster seat.
Full payment can be made when you register; otherwise
a $100.00 deposit is required for each student for each week of programs. The total balance will be due no later than June 1, 2017.
Morning Session is from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
Afternoon Session is from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. All Day Program is from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Our Extended Day Program begins at 7:30 a.m.
with afternoon care pick up no later than 5:30 p.m.

SCHOOL’S OUT FOR THE SUMMER!
We have added an additional week to our Summer Enrichment Programs;
an adventure camp to celebrate the Summer sunshine!
Come kick off summer at Westside School
as we spend the week exploring, creating, and playing,
both on and off campus!
WEEK 1: JUNE 19 - JUNE 23
Let’s Go Fly A Kite: Kite Making (ST)
The Wright brothers used their understanding
of kite aerodynamics to create amazing, sky-
bound aircrafts! Let’s soar into the science,
math, and design of the kite through history.
We will design, build, and create kites, so we
can take them for test flights at a local park.
Volleyball Camp (AT)
Looking to improve your Volleyball Skills? We
will develop individual skills and team work
for the game. There will be scrimmages and
fun!
Aventura! A Spanish Culture Week (EX)
Interested in decorating sugar skulls and
creating worry dolls, making your own paper
mache piñata, learning to cook tamales and
empanadas? Then this class is for you! We
will explore visual and culinary arts from
Latin America, discover new cultural
perspectives, speak Spanish and engage in
many fun projects together.
Graffiti 101: Exploration of Lettering (A)
Let’s begin to explore letters as a form of
art! When designed using safe materials,
graffiti and lettering are a great way to push
artistic boundaries. We will complete a
variety of exercises that encourage students
to create unique letters, learn about and
apply color theory, abstraction and even
begin drawing dimension and depth.
So You Want to Be a Writer? (MS, W)
This class will seek to offer students a variety
of different writing opportunities. Everything
from blending art and writing to binding
creative fiction stories. Open to students
entering or enrolled in Middle School.
WEEK 2: JUNE 26 - JUNE 30
Urban Hiking (EX)
Let’s go on an adventure! We will journey to
a different Seattle park each day. Days will
consist of exploring, nature art, team
building, and yoga. This is an all day
enrichment class for third through eighth
grade students. If you love being outside in
the summer sun, this class is for you!
All Sports Everything! (AT)
Every day in the five week program will focus
on learning and developing the basic skills in
a different sport. We will start from our
current skill levels and work on improving
through games and activities. All levels
welcome!
Art Inspired by Nature (A)
Join us for a week of art inspired by nature.
We will travel to Lincoln Park to paint rocks
and create Andy Goldsworthy inspired art
pieces. Other art projects will
include binding journals,
painting with leaves and
weaving.
Galaxy Far Away: Lego Engineering (ST)
Join us on an adventurous Star Wars journey
through space! Using LEGO® Bricks, we’ll
build motorized models that represent the
ultimate space battle, where the future of an
entire planet hangs in the balance. Don't
miss out on building a motorized Yoda, who
will show how the best Jedi fight. We'll
compare this wondrous, fictionalized world
to ours and build the Redstone Rocket,
NASA's Gemini Capsule, satellites, and
centrifuges. Experience this stellar journey to
a galaxy far away! All campers take home a
custom mini-figure at the end of the week.
Performing Compassion (EX)
We will explore musical instruments, songs,
movement, and dance, to create a short
performance. The show will be performed at
the Day Star Retirement Community in hopes
of bringing joy to the residents. Empathy
and compassion will be part of the journey.
WEEK 3: JULY 10 - JULY 14
All Sports Everything! (AT)
Every day in the five week program will focus
on learning and developing the basic skills in
a different sport. We will start from our
current skill levels and work on improving
through games and activities. All levels
welcome!
Chess Wizards (ST)
Enter into the magical and exciting world of
chess with Chess Wizards! You will
participate in epic chess games, fun and
interactive lessons, tournaments, team
matches, trivia and more! Whether you have
been playing chess for your entire life and
want to improve, are brand new to the
game, or you just want to have a fun
experience with your friends - Chess Wizards
is the place for you!
Playing with Poetry (W)
Do all poems rhyme? How long is a haiku?
Come learn about various forms of poetry
and create captivating pieces each day. We
will explore haiku, sonnets, odes, free verse,
and acrostic poetry, among others. We will
pull our inspiration from art, literature and
adventures off campus.
Duplicate! A Printmaking Art Class (A)
We will be seeing double, as we explore a
variety of printmaking techniques, such as
monoprints, stamp prints, and screenprints.
Through these different processes we will
create and discover landscape, portrait,
pattern, and abstract art styles.
WEEK 4: JULY 17 - JULY 21
Performing Compassion (EX)
We will explore musical instruments, songs,
movement, and dance, to create a short
performance. The show will be performed at
the Day Star Retirement Community in hopes
of bringing joy to the residents. Empathy and
compassion will be part of the journey.
Living in the Lab (ST)
Grab your lab coat and magnifying glass, as
we get ready to investigate! Working with
your fellow scientists, you will conduct
experiments to answer your most intriguing
questions. Join us as we venture into the
world of science exploration.
Creative Cooking (EX)
Stir it up! Let’s learn some essential cooking
techniques and food fundamentals, while
having fun. We will explore where food
comes from, cultural creations and even
bake up a beautiful loaf of bread.
Basketball Camp (AT)
Looking to improve your Basketball Skills?
We will practice ball handling, passing,
shooting form, lay ups, defensive footwork
and more. Friday will be a competition and
games day.
Jurassic Brick Land: Lego Engineering (ST)
Put on your hiking boots and camouflage…
you're about to enter Jurassic Brick Land. We
will build a world that comes to life with a
gentle Brontosaurus, ferocious Velociraptor,
terrifying T. Rex, while discovering amazing
dinosaurs that lived during the Jurassic
Period. Show us your building skills using our
motorized project kits! There are also some
fun craft projects in store -- like making
dinosaur masks and claws. All campers take
home a custom mini-figure at the end of the
week.
WEEK 5: JULY 24 - JULY 28
Top Chef! (EX)
Join us while we explore a variety of baking
and cooking activities in the Westside
Kitchen. Each day we will practice following
recipes to create beautiful, delicious dishes.
Attention will be paid to safety and hand
hygiene – a must in any kitchen! Bon Appétit!
Chinese à la carte (EX)
The only way to learn a language is to get
your hands dirty! In this class, we will be
learning practical Chinese through practice.
Together we will gain a greater appreciation
of the language and culture through hands-
on exploration of cultural products and
practices such as: tea and tea
ceremony, Chinese poetry, martial arts, ink
painting and calligraphy, traditional and
contemporary cooking, as well as traditional
games like Xiangqi and Majiang. Chinese
novice and adepts are all welcome; the only
requirements are a good attitude, some
curiosity, and a healthy appetite for new
experiences. 我们一起学中华文化吧!
Modern Myth Makers (W)
Come with us on a journey through myths
and legends. We will create our own myths
by learning about and working with the
elements that bring a story to life. Each day
we’ll look at myths from around the world;
from myths of beginning to the Hero’s
Journey.
Get Moving: PE Games (AT)
Tie on your tennis shoes, we are spending
the week engaged in PE games and activities
that will keep you moving. We will focus on
improving skills, practicing teamwork,
increasing strategy, perfecting game play,
and, most importantly, having fun!
WEEK 6: JULY 30 - AUGUST 4

a different sport. We will start from our

Action! Film Production (A)
Lights, Camera, Action! Come join us as we
explore the storyboarding, camera
movements, filming, and editing needed in
film production. Our end of week goal is to
create a music video, short ad or film.
STEAM Tinker, Create, Innovate (ST)
Let’s enter a world of innovation! Each day
we will focus on a different STEAM concept:
Robotics, Circuits, Music, Art, and
Technology. We will TINKER with various
materials and tools, CREATE daily projects
and INNOVATE by applying creativity and
conceptual knowledge to problem solve
real-world concepts.
Chess Wizards (ST)

Middle School Skills (MS) Free of Charge
We will explore a variety of topics to help
prepare students for Middle School. We will
cover how to use a planner, what to expect in
exploratory, flex, and advisory classes, along
with a variety of other topics to help prepare
for a confident first day of school at
Westside. Open to entering or newly
enrolled Middle School students.
