Introduction
Scatter Search and Path Relinking 3
solution unique.

Surrogate constraints (Glover, 1965)
The primal dual distinction stems from the fact that surrogate constraint
methods give rise to a mathematical duality theory associated with their
role as relaxation methods for optimization:
• Greenberg and Pierskalla, 1970, 1973;
• Glover, 1965, 1975;
• Karwan and Rardin, 1976, 1979;

structure, i.e. (i, j) ∈ M si et seulement si i ∈ S, j ∈ S, j ∈ N(i), et i ∈ N( j), où

Formal definition of the DCLC multicast routing problem 1/2:
• A computer network is modeled as a connected, directed
graph G = (V, E) with |V| = n nodes and |E| = l edges.
• Each edge e = (u, v) ∈ E, where u and v are two adjacent
vertices of e, is associated with two real values, namely the
cost c(e) and the delay d(e).
• The source node s ∈ V and a set of destination nodes
(multicast group), denoted by D ∈ V\{s}.
• Each destination node ri ∈ D receives information from the
source s simultaneously.
• The path from node u to v as a serial of edges along the
path, denoted by P(u, v) = {(u, i), (i, j), …, (k, v)}.

• |V|= 9 nodes
• |E|= 14 edges
• A solution (multicast tree) is represented by using a
binary array with |V| = n bits.
• Each bit (from 0 to n-1) represents one node in the
network, and takes a value of 1 if the corresponding
node is in the multicast tree, 0 otherwise.

28Scatter Search and Path Relinking
complexes d’optimisation combinatoire.
