Drive test for GSM, GPRS and EDGE:
Drive Test Engineering tools: TEMS Investigation Version. 10.0 v
Post processing and study of collected data, transform the data in to report
format, document the stats and reports. Study and analysis of radio parameters.
Post Processing of drive test log files and recommending changes. Detailed
analysis of log files using L3 messages. Giving detailed description for call drop,
MAHHO delays/failures, Lost points. Neighbor list optimization using information
extracted from log files, Monitor the network performance based on reports (%
Call Setup Success, %RF failures, % Handoff failures, %Drop Calls etc.),
Analysis of drive test data for coverage and quality problems and offering
appropriate solution for solving the RF related problems in the network.
PROJECT PROFILE
TRAINING PROJECT: CELLULAR PLANNING OF 3G NETWORKS.
The third generation network planning is culmination of RF planning and Wireless
planning. Initially the city's topological maps are procured and the demographic
statistics gathered.
From the data collected, the size and capacity was planned first for 2G networks
(GSM) as a step towards optimizing the plan for 3G Network. The initial
theoretical design was made and the technical specifications were derived from
the RF planning tool. The wireless network planning is accomplished by choosing
the network topology and linking the BTSs w.r.t BSC and MSC.
Later the design was optimize for 3G network (CDMA) by sizing the cells and
estimating the capacity for each new cell. The concept of cell breathing was
incorporated by implementing variable power DRX-pilot channel optimization
design.

RF PLANNING deals with the air interface between the BASE TRANSCEIVER
STATION & the MOBILE UNIT. It also involves designing and optimizing the
network in order to provide a high quality service to customers.
The objective of the project is to plan, design & optimize a cell site for emerging
3G Networks. The main purpose of the planning is fewer base stations per
network, greater system efficiency and capacity, improved voice quality and a
reduction or elimination of drop outs and multi path problems. All of which result
in improved services and greatly reduced network cost.
