Project Rachel Ministry - Retreat
“My spirit was broken and as far as I knew beyond repair. I was consumed
with feelings of remorse. During the retreat, I realized the lasting impact of forgiveness. I knew God had forgiven me, and now I needed to forgive myself.” – A Project Rachel Retreat Attendee. The Project Rachel ministry of the Archdiocese of Boston extends a special invitation to women suffering from the pain of a past abortion to attend a Come to the Waters of Healing one-day retreat. Winter/spring dates are February 23, March 23 and April 27. Locations are confidential. Limited to ten participants per retreat. For more information, contact Project Rachel at 508.651.3100 or [email protected].

Mass Policy during the Winter Season
♦ The cardinal rule: If you think the roads and conditions are too dangerous to drive, please don’t drive.
♦ If the Massachusetts State Police are urging drivers to stay off the roads, do not venture out.
♦ On weekdays, if Georgetown/Rowley schools are cancelled due to snow or ice, then Daily Mass is cancelled regardless of where it is being held.
♦ Mass in celebration of Sunday (Saturday 4:30 p.m. through Sunday 11:00 a.m.) will most likely NOT be canceled except in the event of a major storm where there are warnings about driving and/or people are told to stay off the roads.
♦ In the event that a Sunday Mass is canceled, notice will be provided to area Television stations indicating such.
♦ In all cases, we ask that you exercise caution while driving and walking on church property as the conditions may be less than ideal during or in the immediate aftermath of a winter storm. If questions arise, revert to “The Cardinal Rule”.

February 17 ~ Sixth Sunday of Ordinary Time We hear the Beatitudes proclaimed in today’s gospel. The text is so familiar, it is easy for our thoughts to drift off and not really hear what Christ is saying. Take some time this week to reflect on these Beatitudes. Is there one beatitude that you need to focus on that will enrich your living as a disciple of Christ? Put your trust in him to help you have that beatitude attitude!

It has become fashionable as of late to refer to a person’s
funeral in church as a “celebration of life”. Some funeral
homes write this in the person’s obituary. They may even
say that the Funeral Mass is being held “in honor” of the
deceased. Both of these statements do not fit well into the
Catholic Funeral Rite. That is because every Mass is a
celebration of Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection. If the
Mass is held in honor of anyone, it is Jesus.
Recently, I was told by a family member of a loved one
whose funeral I celebrated that I spoke too much about
Jesus and not much at all about the deceased. In my
defense, I told the person that I didn’t know anything
personal about their loved one because the family didn’t
furnish anything even though I had asked them to and
secondly, Jesus is the focus of the Mass. It is not the
priest’s role to offer a eulogy, nor are we supposed to
canonize the deceased.
Over the years I have received a lot of praise from people
who have attended funeral services that I have presided at
and funeral masses that I have celebrated. I always
incorporate personal things about the deceased’ life and
even more so when I have had the privilege of getting to
know the person beforehand. But if we are going to refer
to the funeral as a “celebration of life” then let us be sure
who it is that we are truly honoring – Jesus!
Blessings, Father Dan
