An Introduction to the Medicine Wheelthis presentation is a traditional sioux Medicine Wheel teaching as taught by sunBear. you will learn the form of the wheel, its many attributes and how it has beenused historically as well as currently to enhance one’s spiritual connection. theWorkshop includes finding your animal ally and your place inside the wheel. youwill be invited to return at a later date to participate in an actual Medicine Wheelceremony. 

presenter: aryll argon, a student of  native american studies since the early1980’s, from california to Wisconsin. she has been involved in a variety of sweatlodges, drumming circles, and medicine wheels.   Saturday, Sept. 22, 1:00-3:00 PM. Fee $10. Sisters’ Residence.

Crafting for ChristmasBegin using your creative talents tomake a christmas ornament. thismay be an idea for a handmade giftfor family and friends forchristmas; time allows for you tomake several in the coming monthsbefore christmas. the craft will bea nativity ornament made with feltmaterial.don’t miss this fun time of learninga new craft. Materials you will needto bring: scissors for cuttingmaterial and an embroidery needle. presenter: Jenny Weber, an ardentsewer and crafter. fee: $10 and $5 materials fee.

Prayer Shawls for Otherssince fall of 2006, four hundredten recipients have benefited fromthe scl Knit, purl, crochet, praygroup’s creativity. prayer shawlshave been given to people in timesof illness, for birthday and weddingcelebrations plus other times ofneed. shawls have been given tolocal residents and have beenmailed to people throughout thenation. all people interested in

giving time and talent to benefitothers are invited to join this groupas we knit, crochet, pray andsocialize. to request a prayershawl to present to someone intime of need or celebration of aspecial event call 715-532-0299.

Events at SCLthe summer has provided a time toenjoy the scl places for reflection,contemplation and being withnature. Our healing rain Gardenhas done well with some newmulch and tender care. We aregrateful to sister cecilia fandelwho oversees this project. We arein the process of purchasing astatue of st. peregrine, the healingsaint, that will be placed in thegarden. this will be a memorial toclara Jacques with monies donatedin her memory.

Our focus in september will be the Medicine Wheel. you are invited to attend the program onseptember 22 and the follow up Medicine Wheel ceremony. this is an opportunity to learnand to gain an appreciation for native american spirituality.

We received positive feedback about the Basket Weaving class held in May. shirley Mount was a patient andhelpful teacher and participants went home proud of a completed basket.

after twelve years, the prayer shawl group continues strong and bringsthe gift of love and compassion to many recipients. typical is a responsefrom one woman who recently received a prayer shawl, “Words cannotbe said of how this shawl has given me so much joy and peace during myhealing. What a wonderful and God given surprise. i will cherish thisshawl for the rest of my life.” you, too, can bring joy and peace tosomeone by requesting a prayer shawl. (call 715-532-0299.)

looking ahead, the winter sessions will include a book study of two novelsbased on current issues. plan now to join us.
