Jeremiah 17:9-10 (ESV) The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately
sick; who can understand it? “I the Lord search the heart and test the mind, to give every man according to his
ways, according to the fruit of his deeds.”
"Deceitful” Polluted, Fraudulent, Slippery
"Sick” Incurable, Desperate, Wicked
The heart was made to seek Wonder, Truth, Love and Security.
James 1:13-17 (ESV) Let no one say when he is tempted, "I am being tempted
by God," for God cannot be tempted with evil, and he himself tempts no one. But each person is tempted when
he is lured and enticed by his own desire. Then desire when it has conceived gives birth to sin, and sin when it is fully grown brings forth death. Do not be deceived, my
beloved brothers. Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights with
whom there is no variation or shadow due to change.
Step 1: Reach out to Jesus and hold on tight
Step 2: Confess
James 5:16 (ESV) Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for
one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working.
Step 3: Don’t Run from the Discipline
Hebrews 12:11 (ESV) For the moment all discipline seems painful rather than
pleasant, but later it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it.
Step 4: Purify your Heart
James 4:8 (ESV) Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse
your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.
Step 5: Wage war against your sin
