The Eastern Ontario Divisional Qualifier regatta is held annually for athletes in Peewee up to Masters. As with other regattas, this one consists of a series of races in singles, doubles, fours and war canoe races with varying distances. EODs act as a qualifier for the upcoming Ontario Championships on August 9th and are held over the course of three days. Athletes attending this regatta will be from many different canoe clubs from all over eastern Ontario. As always, all athletes and parents are encouraged to take part in this great event –whether that be paddling or volunteering. Athlete Travel Athletes are expected to travel to the regatta via their own arrangements. If for some reason athletes are unable to have their parents/guardians provide their transportation, please contact your coach and/or our office manager Jessica to look for alterative means of transportation (see contact information below).
Boat Loading The trailer will be loaded starting the morning of Friday, August 1st. All athletes should be present that day to ensure that all their equipment –paddles, life jackets, buns, etc. – are ready and packed for the regatta. The trailer will leave for Carleton Place Friday afternoon, so any help with preparing and loading the boats for travel would be encouraged! Event Location The Eastern Ontario Divisional Qualifier Regatta will be held at the Rideau Canoe Club, located at 804 Hog’s Back Rd, Ottawa, ON. General directions from the North Bay Canoe Club to the event location can be found by clicking the link below or by copying and inserting it into your Internet browser. There will likely be food and beverages sold at the regatta, however, these are usually poor nutritional choices for fuelling athletes on race day. We encourage athletes to pack their own healthy snacks, drinks and lunch for the day. For parents, there is a Tim Hortons across from the racecourse but we ask all paddlers to remain on-‐site at all times while at the event. Do not forget to bring lots of water! Athlete Supervision Once at the event, the attending coaches will be responsible for all racing athletes. While at the regatta, paddlers are expected to behave in an appropriate and respectful manner – complying with the North Bay Canoe Club Code of Conduct. Remember, you are representing this canoe club and are expected to show the highest level of sportsmanship! Electronics While at regattas, we discourage athletes from using electronic devices for purposes other than contacting parents/guardians. Athletes should leave them at home, with their parents at the regatta, or in their luggage. Equipment You paddlers know better than anyone else what equipment you will need to paddle a sprint canoe/kayak! It is your responsibility to pack your own equipment. Do not assume your equipment will be or is packed –be responsible!
Equipment You paddlers know better than anyone else what equipment you will need to paddle a sprint canoe/kayak! It is your responsibility to pack your own equipment. Do not assume your equipment will be or is packed –be responsible! Your regatta checklist:
☐ Life Jacket
☐ Canoe Paddle and Bun*
☐ Kayak Paddle*
☐ NBCC Racing Jersey
☐ Hat and Sunscreen
☐ Rainwear, warm clothing, etc. (be weather ready)
☐ Healthy Snacks, lunch and beverages (no energy drinks please!) Regatta Fees To register athletes in this event, a payment of $30/participant must be made. In addition, this year we are asking that all athletes attending the regatta help subsidize a portion of the cost to transport boats to and from the regatta. This fee will likely fall within $20 to $35, please keep in mind that this amount is dependent on the number of paddlers attending. Soon after the regatta, an e-‐mail will be sent out to all parents with the final amount owing. Payments are due immediately following the regatta. All payments made to the “North Bay Canoe Club” can be given to our Office Manager, Sami. Accommodation in Ottawa As with athlete transportation, the canoe club does not arrange accommodation whilst at regattas. Below are a few suggestions for accommodation while attending this regatta.
