CHALLENGEHistorically,LACTunitsusedmechanicalpositivedisplacementflowmeterswithexternaltemperatureaveragerstorecordTWAforNSVcalculations.However,mechanicalpositivedisplacementflowmetersrequireperiodicmaintenanceandneedadditionalexternaltemperatureaveragerstodetermineTWA.Thistranslatestoadditionalcustomercosts.

SOLUTIONThecustomerchosetoinstalltheMicroMotionELITE®Seriesflowmetersandthe2700/5700SeriesflowtransmitterswithanAPIReferralSoftwareoption.AnexternalflowingtemperaturetransmitterprovidesaninputtotheflowtransmitterviaaHARTprocessvariableoranalogsignal.TWAiscalculatedviathesoftwareoptionandcanberesetviathetransmitter’sdisplayorModbuscommunications.LACTmeasurementqualityandavailabilitywasincreasedduetothemaintenancefreeCoriolisflowmetertechnology.TheLACTskidfootprintwasalsoreducedduetofewercomponents.

TheseinvestmentsresultedinreducedcoststoinstallandoperateaCoriolisbasedLACT,savingthecustomerapproximately$4,000perunit.
