How to realize the potential:

• Increase the spectrum efficiency within a cell in LTE-A: Carrier Aggregation Higher order MIMO:

8T8R scenarios are considered in two direction:– UE is aware of 8T: spatial multiplexing gain can be achieved but with

higher reference signal overhead– UE is only aware of 4T: The mapping from 8T(or even more transmit

antennas) to 4T can be implemented via beamforming/precoding.– In both scenarios, channel reciprocity is possibly applied

SU MIMO supported in UL Relay: to increase the coverage in cell-edge and/or improve

throughput in hot spot. CoMP

• Increase the spectrum efficiency among cells: Interference among

neighboring cells become a serious issue to limit the performance upgrade.

So-called CoMP(Co-Ordinate Multi-Point) transmission:

One eNB contains one or multi-cells

One cell contains one or multi-RRUs

One RRU contains one or multi-antennas

• CoMP categories: Joint Processing (JP): data is available at each point in

CoMP cooperating set Joint Transmission: PDSCH transmission from multiple

points (part of or entire CoMP cooperating set) at a time Dynamic cell seletion: PDSCH transmission from one

point at a time (within CoMP cooperating set) Coordinated Scheduling/Beamforming (CS/CB): data is

only available at serving cell (data transmission from that point) but user scheduling/beamforming decisions are made with coordination among cells corresponding to the CoMP cooperating set.
